We’re almost a year out from shooting this and for a little while, I’ve been working on it quietly, keeping it a bit hidden while I tried to understand what it actually is and where it could go. I think I convinced myself it needed to make more sense, feel more complete or resonate more, forgetting that it’s a project in development and it was never meant to be perfect.
Also, this journey has stretched me in ways I didn’t expect (Many stories to tell!) and not all of it looked like progress. Some of it looked like carrying things I didn’t plan for and figuring it out quietly.
This project started in my small bachelor apartment three years ago, with a big white cardboard sheet on my bedroom wall and me showing up every day, writing, building characters and trying to understand the story. Then it grew into something more, especially under the guidance of Tracey-Lee Rainers through the @durbanfilmmart Access Programme, which helped shape it into something I couldn’t have done alone.
However, somewhere along the way, I hid. I think when something matters this much, it’s easier to step back than to risk putting it out there before you feel ready (perhaps that could also be a little excuse) but I’m starting to realise that waiting doesn’t necessarily protect the work, it just delays it.

I was called by my good friend Miselwa to join the project after she saw another project I did with a friend- we would always meet at theatre shows and talk about curating works & how do we consume film & performance, on this project I played the Character of ‘Tshepo’ a con-artist who’s objective was to distract an ongoing phone snatching
This is another example of they are no small roles only small actors, because with this archive I know have met a lot of amazing individuals both in film and photography.
