During the Basel week, we are excited to co-organise the exhibition 𝓐𝓻𝓽𝓲𝓯𝓲𝓲𝓬𝓪𝓵 𝓕𝓵𝓪𝓿𝓸𝓾𝓻 with a series of panel talks 🚀 The show explores the cyborg condition in our tech-saturated era, where human creativity and artificial systems—algorithms, synthetics, urban designs—engage in profound, mutual infusion. Drawing parallels to artificial food flavors, it reveals a reciprocal "tasting": humans gain hybrid augmentation, machines acquire emotional depth, birthing hybrid artworks that blur natural/artificial boundaries as co-constitutive realities. ⚱️ 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁: 𝗟𝗶 𝗖𝗵𝗶-𝗧𝗮𝗸 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘅 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘃𝗮𝘀𝗲 @ 𝗗𝗫 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗛𝘂𝗯 Li Chi Tak will present a live drawing performance on a ceramic vase created by Czech designer Klara Šumová for Křehký Gallery, taking inspiration from Franz Kafka’s “A Hunger Artist”. Using the expressive style of comics, his drawings will unfold directly on the designer’s vase, turning it into both canvas and stage.🎨 The project blends three creative worlds—comic art, literature, and ceramic design—into a single experience. More than an artistic experiment, it also reflects a dialogue between Hong Kong and the Czechia, showing how cultural exchange can generate new forms of storytelling. The second video showcases the mesmerizing art of water sleeves dance. This episode highlights several unique techniques that truly sets this genre apart, for example how do dancers spread sleeves in an arch gracefully (弧線揚袖). While it comes with informative insights, it still maintains the lyrical simplicity of the first episode. The dancer’s movements are strikingly outlined by the lighting arrangement, and the videography plus editing enhance her dynamic performance. 《青衣》水袖 - 屬於青衣的秘密 (第一回) The Moon Opera | Water Sleeves - The untold stories of Qingyi (ep.1) Water sleeves are the core element of dance production The Moon Opera. We created two videos to introduce this iconic costume item of Qingyi (prototypical female character in Chinese opera). The first video is a general introduction that is given a strong sense of poetry; it is visually defined by the changing phases of the moon in the backdrop with subtle gradients. The theatrical pace and mood of both videos are matched with the soundtrack by Guo Sida (composer of The Moon Opera), shaping moments of epic grandeur in these short videos. Shot on the shores of a remote beach in Hong Kong, imagining what it is like to be stranded on a foreign land, looking for shelter, while being looked at, scrutinized and interpreted by others. It reflects the myriad perspectives woven into this theatrical piece—those of a refugee, a director, a translator, and more. Based on the works of German script writer Kevin Rittberger, Kassandra or the World as the End of Representation is an adapted theatre piece by local trans-disciplinary creative group LittleBreath. As complex as its title suggests, the piece poses questions about empathy, especially for Asian audiences grappling with the refugee crisis in distant lands.
