framing the garden. Bronze arched doors form a threshold between kitchen and garden. The arched form, warmth and patina of the bronze bring depth and softness to the space, while giving a sense of permanence and history. stair closet. The underside of a stair offers a generous amount of storage. We took this as an opportunity to bring texture, rhythm, and richness to the room. Photographer: @anbatch #residentialarchitecture #staircasedesign #londonarchitects #adaptivereuse #architects

copper, oak, concrete and zellige, bronze and marble. A choreography unfolds across the kitchen. Together, the mix of materials create a layered richness that feels both tactile and composed. windows look like lanterns Rear of a Victorian terrace, where our design is set in dialogue within the rhythm of historic window and door openings - a layered composition where old and new work seamlessly together. Enduring combination of materials. An effective combination of two textural materials: bronze doors and basket-woven dark brickwork, with graduated arches. This threshold moment mediates between the soft white interior and rich of the green exterior. The contrast is understated yet powerful, allowing texture, colour and tone carry an enduring beauty. Character and warmth through the choreography of parts. One of our favourite spaces, shaped in collaboration with our client, where each element feels natural, informal, yet intentional. A fluted column wraps a structural steel post, soft arches and white walls work with rustic oak flooring reclaimed table and mirror. The result is relaxed, tactile and warm. Paired back and timeless. Keeping things pared back, the composition achieves a calm, enduring elegance that feels considered and effortless. Soft green walls and a lively geometric floor bring character, while unlacquered brass and glass details introduce a warmth together with the ceramic white of the free-standing vanity with brass frame and taps. A living workspace. Here, we’ve designed a space that functions seamlessly as both a living room and an office. Concealed within the red lacquered cabinet is a fully integrated desk and computer. A rich mix of finishes brings character, from the historic floorboards and furniture to the crisp lacquered surfaces, a contemporary lamp, with a touch of green, adds a counterpoint. As the day closes.. From outside, the open-plan kitchen reveals its relationship to the garden. As the day closes, the interior begins to glow, the lights gathering softly within the room. Seen from the garden, the kitchen becomes lantern-like luminous against the fading light. Blending the kitchen into the broader atmosphere of the home Smooth surfaces and calm lines shape this kitchen’s working space, centring on an island that integrates the sink, with the hob against the wall. The palette is deliberately restrained, reducing the presence of materials typically associated with kitchens. This creates an environment that performs practically and functionally, while blending into the broader atmosphere of the home.  Contractor: @allstructlondon Concrete flooring: @lazenbyltd Kitchen wall/splashback & island finish: @forcrete_ Wall paint: @lick Photographer: @anbatch #kitchendesign #londonarchitects #retrofit #residentialarchitecture #openplankitchen

Open plan living As kitchens define the heart of contemporary family homes, they are no longer separate, utilitarian zones but integral to our living, dining, socialising and working lives. All under one roof - open-plan as they are referred to - these spaces have become the most used rooms in our homes.
