Stone, light, and shadow—crafted to move with the rhythm of the sun.
At Casa Marea, every surface is intentional. Veins of travertine, sculpted planes, and precision-cut reveals transform natural stone into a living canvas—shifting from soft morning glow to warm, golden dusk.
Set within the Four Seasons Private Residences at Costa Palmas, this home is a study in quiet luxury—where materiality meets artistry on the East Cape of Mexico.

What a day! The rain didn’t stop us from getting out to the job site. 🌧️ It’s a great reminder that building a vision doesn’t happen in perfect conditions; it happens with a dedicated team, rain or shine.
Our site visits are all about collaboration. We bring together the architects, contractors, engineers, and clients to work as one unified team, no matter the weather. This partnership is essential for a successful project, allowing us to tackle challenges and ensure the final result is a high-quality building.
A huge thank you to everyone on the team for their hard work and dedication to the project, especially Loeffler Construction! With the Oglala Sioux Tribe, Porcupine District, The Project Team, @loefflerconstruction@studionyl@bowmanconsulting@kljeng and Core Engineering

Mass Timber Museum
The Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) is home to a vast collection of inspirational art by Nebraska artists. MONA will be the cultural center of Nebraska art by expanding its collection, providing quality exhibitions, and preserving its historic building. Mass timber used on this project will ensure MONA’s legacy of beauty and sustainability. Cross-laminated timber (CLT) allows the structural system to be nearly carbon neutral on this project.
In a groundbreaking fusion of heritage and innovation, Timberlyne proudly contributed to the transformation of the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) in Kearney, Nebraska. This historic renovation and expansion project showcases our expertise in mass timber construction while preserving Nebraska's rich cultural heritage.
Project Highlights:
23,000-square-foot expansion seamlessly integrated with the historic building
Innovative mass timber solutions that complement the museum's architectural character
Sustainable design elements that enhance the visitor experience
Custom-engineered timber components that support both form and function
Our mass timber solutions provide the perfect backdrop for MONA's mission as the state's only museum dedicated to celebrating Nebraska's artists. The renovated space creates an inspiring environment for both permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, demonstrating how modern timber construction can enhance cultural spaces.

Facade Designer and Digital Technology Lead, Jason Hasko, an AIA Associate, is our next team member highlight for our #SNYLturns20 series:
Do you remember your first day of college? What was it like?🎤 ”Yes, I remember meeting my roommate for the first time, little did I know 10 years later we would still be best friends. We often collaborated with each other during separate design programs at school and even taught ourselves computational design.”
What is your favorite Boston area building or structure? Why?🎤 “MIT Site 4 - it was my first ever facade project, at that time working for the fabricator. I love the way the color gradient and the shifting pattern turn a clean massing into a very dynamic exterior that engages well with the surrounding context.”
What do you hope to contribute from your work? 🎤 “I don’t think I have the whole vision worked out yet, but for me it’s not so much about the ‘what’ as it is about the ‘how’. The people I work with and the communities that shape and grow these projects are what I feel connected to. So it’s important to me that the process of design and construction are integrated in sustainable relationships.”
What is the greatest potential for architecture and/or engineering to shape a neighborhood community? 🎤 ”I really like this question because it could have said ‘change the world’ but instead focuses on the scale where we can have the most impact -- with the people around us. The current wave of industrial revolution can bring sophisticated methods to the common man’s garage. With a cnc machine and a 3D printer, neighbors can build things for each other that previously had to come from a factory. This ideology can be the solution to our global housing (and climate) crisis.”
What restaurant would you recommend your coworkers to try? 🎤 “Celeste in Somerville turned us on to Peruvian cuisine. So much so that we went on our honeymoon to Peru and ate at some of the best restaurants in the world. Their culinary art is deeply rooted in the land and the history of its inhabitants.”
Studio NYL provided enclosure design services for the headquarters of the Helios Education Foundation and its partners College Success Arizona, Teach for America, and many others. The campus is a gathering place for educators, policymakers, teachers, and others to strategically map out big ideas and make quality higher education available to more students. The enclosure is designed around a passive self-shading concept while maintaining a strong connection to the outdoors using a folded metal rain-screen system. The glazing systems used custom triangular extrusions to make them appear razor-thin from oblique angles. The base of the building at the ground plane employed a stone rain-screen system and deeply set glazing for better self-shading. #SNYLturns20
We continue our series celebrating our 20th anniversary with another Milestone Moment, our "IKEA" drawings. Studio NYL's drawing details often read like instructions from IKEA, which is why our team fondly refers to them as IKEA details or IKEA drawings. We use sequenced, exploded details to walk the entire project team through assemblies that may appear complicated but are actually a unique arrangement of simple stock elements. Our team has used this concept to improve communications with owners, contractors, fabricators and, of course, architects. The intent is to help the entirety of the team to understand the "WHY" of what we are doing, establish buy-in and eliminate fear. Often, we find that bids on projects can suffer from the fear of the unknown and the sequencing of construction. The use of these diagrams helps us communicate what is important to the design, in terms of performance and/or aesthetics, and enables the team to work with our craftsmen to help them determine their means and methods of achieving the vision. We incorporate these diagrams into our pre-bid meetings to establish the dialogue early in the project. These “IKEA details” have been instrumental in helping our project teams achieve inspired, high-performance design over our first 20 years in business. #SNYLturns20
Facade Designer, Sean Levesque, Associate AIA, out of our Boston office, is the next team member to be highlighted in our #SNYLturns20 series!
What is your favorite Boston-area building or structure? Why?
🎤Renzo Piano’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum expansion. It complements and never overshadows the existing historic structure while presenting some really interesting tectonic design choices.
What has been your most proud moment as an architect/engineer?
🎤While finishing up punch listing for a new build lab project, a teacher setting up her lab space expressed how grateful she was for the new teaching facilities. That moment, while small, really drove home why we do what we do as architects and designers and made me proud to have played a role in that effort.
What kind of projects do you want to work on in the future?
🎤Facade and envelope retrofits that help to improve energy efficiency, overall building performance, and extend building lifespan.
What do you see as the largest barrier to a zero-waste building, city, and world?🎤The biggest barriers I see are financial ones. The best zero-waste projects will start with reuse and retrofit. If we can come up with creative ways to make working with what we already have a cost effective and profitable solution for project owners, that would go a long way towards achieving zero waste and environmentally friendly milestones.
What is the greatest potential for architecture and/or engineering to shape a neighborhood community?
🎤To bring back new life to underutilized or vacant buildings and sites to help foster community engagement and excitement within a neighborhood’s built environment.
What is one thing you enjoy doing outside of work?
🎤Following (and occasionally playing) ice hockey. Go Bruins!
Studio NYL provided structural engineering services for this $40M, 100,000 sf new build middle school in Grand Junction, Colorado with Blythe Group + Co. The school district’s brief was that the building be unique and make a great impression on students and the community. Studio NYL proposed steel “tree” columns at the main entry and the commons spaces to provide dynamic spaces. #SNYLturns20
