Josh Hash’s work, often derived from late 20th century folklore, centers around memory, community, and representation. His heritage as a Persian/Swiss first-generation American has inspired an artistic practice that reflects on ideas of diaspora, commerce, and colloquial language — resulting in artworks that offer practical utility and tangible connections to everyday life an example of this being 2nd Saturdays, a monthly meetup group that tours galleries across various L.A. neighborhoods. See Hash’s “Reliquaries Series (aka Postcards)” on view at Brand Library & Art Center before the exhibition closes. Neighborhood Ecology 🗺️💚 CLOSING THIS WEEKEND On view through Saturday, May 9, 2026 View BrandLibrary.org/Visit for hours. @jhash93 @studiohash.art @myglendalelac 🎥: @2nd_saturdays

Opening tonight at the @brandlibrary “Neighborhood Ecology” Curated by @stephanie_sherwood_art Jan 31 - May 9th Honored to have so many of my post card pieces on display in one space. The 37 works on display all examine hand written letters sent from LA on the back of souvenir postcards throughout the 20th century. In a place this fluid and ever changing I find the colloquial ways we seek connection, tie us to the experience of this place across time. Also the paintings are cute. If you’re in Los Angeles come visit this historic venue and connect with some great local artists 🙏🏽

One of the first postcard paintings I sold after graduating from a small liberal arts school in SF. At that time I was so determined to make it as an artist and find my way in the world. Though I’ve found some level of success, It’s something I’m honestly still striving for. Wanted to post it as a reminder heading into the new year to always hold your passions in your heart, live your life through love, and keep going no matter how many times you get knocked down. Eventually the fruits of your labor will bloom and that’s really what this whole journey is about.

No better turn on than a pull chain. 💡 . . Monet once said he doesn’t paint a subject but instead the light in between him and the subject of his paintings. Painting has always been rooted in light. Dating back to the chiaroscuro traditions of Caravaggio to the mid-century movement of light and space, artist have used light to create illusion and captivate audiences. I’ve been enjoying the evolution of my postcard paintings as they’ve become these more sculptural (Judd like) light boxes. It really helps bring the postcard dioramas to life and brings warmth to the intimate scale works. This series of custom nightlights capture landscapes and snippets of hand written letters from LA. This one of Chinatown features the phrase “five after” a reference to the chillness of living on LA time. ☀️

Ever hear of zombie formalism? 🧟‍♂️ The runaway art movement proliferated in the early 2000s references the hyper production of commercialized abstract works, largely done on canvas. These artists were often pressured by market makers to over produce, over price, and over sell without regard for their long term career sustainability. Effectively making thoughtless art, like a zombie. Though seeing major boom-to-bust corrections after the 2008 economic crash, and now again in the early 2020s, the idea of art as commodity seems to be inescapable. Despite numerous artists and emerging markets getting burned by this behavior. Paint Rings by #studiohash play off this legacy of folly by literally embedding the histories of modern abstract painting onto luxury goods. They are still visually enticing paintings that harken back to visionaries like #cliffordstill and #samfrancis yet unapologetically own their status as commodity. Maybe my way of “making art honest again.” As a self identified #fluxus artists I believe that art is far less about hyping up functionless design objects, and more about living through a practice of thoughtfulness while connecting with others. Hence these objects break from the “don’t touch” austere vibes of abstract art and instead become extensions of the body as it engages in everyday life. They’re also just dope, DM for inventory or commissions. #mensrings #fashionaccessories #jewllerydesign #customjewelry #handmade #arthistory

For all those times you wish you could go back to the beginning… 💔 People say live life without regrets, tho sage, it’s sometimes easier said than done. As humans all we can do is live, make mistakes, embrace failure, and love deeply. Try not to beat yourself up for it. For every broken or longing heart know, every new beginning starts off nice. So embrace what tomorrow may bring. Nothing is promised 🫶🏽 I know it’s a late post but happy Valentine’s Day to all the lover boys and girls out there. ✨ “Luna Luna” 1963 - 2024 Acrylic resin, glass, glitter, walnut, and paint on vintage postcard letter 4”x6” (Rechargeable batteries included) #minaturepainting #folkart #nightlight
