It’s been a while since we’ve shared a renovation update, but today felt like a moment worth pausing for.
After six months without a proper sink or bench, split between two rooms and a temporary setup, installing the new benchtop and plumbing the sink felt quietly joyful.
Progress has been slow, one weekend at a time, but that pace has its own reward. Each small step brings pride, and there’s something grounding about seeing things unfold slowly, at odds with the speed of life.
The pace is encouraging us to be patient, and in that is a kind of joy…one of presence, and one of enoughness.

These marble beauties are currently in store, thanks to the clever duo from Studio Flek and an opportunistic discovery at a local stonemason.
Scouring workshops and industrial areas for sources of useful waste, the husband-and-wife team – trained in architecture and industrial design – started up a friendly chat with the stonemason after noticing a skip bin filled to the brim with marble offcuts.
The 'Odds & Ends' series was born after negotiating to use the marble for lighting - saving it from becoming discarded as waste.
This clever duo featured in our 2022 Unleashed exhibition and were part of our 2024 judging panel. We are thrilled to include these pieces in store as part of our Unleashed cohort for the duration of the exhibition.

We found and collected multiple pieces of thin offcuts strips. In the process of playing with these and learning from previous experiments, this stacked little cutie emerged.
This is a one off and we intend to keep making these with the strips we find in the tips. Soon you should be able to head over to @alt.material and buy this little palette stack for a side table.

Figure 3.1 - Reclaimed timber, dye painted capsicum red & rainforest brown marble offcuts
The first in a series of furniture pieces that nestle together, the final image showing the original intent. While we weren’t able to complete multiple pieces the shape of the first unit shows a kind of playfulness of the intended idea.
The intent to make furniture moveable, or to play around with arrangements in colourful and uncommon methods. Something that is maybe missing from beige/brown and grey living rooms of the 21st century.
This piece will be on show with several other colourful, playful and beautiful works at @artisanqld for several months. Opening night is this Friday, attending this comes highly recommended. That way you can chat to the designers and the always friendly @cjand (both curator and designer for this show 🤙)
