Last night at MoCA\CT was pure magic. Words met sound—and sound became color. The room felt electric as Sahmra Sawyer (Supreme Divinity) premiered original poems and honored the timeless work of Langston Hughes and others, all inspired by the exhibition, ‘Art Jazz + the Blues.’ Alongside her, the talented Lauren Clayton painted live, translating each word into image in real time. Woven throughout the evening: soft jazz, a community fully present, and delicious, soulful fare from 29 Markle CT—as elevated and nourishing as the night itself. SOOOOO excited to be invited to share a new piece at the most amazingly inspiring show @artbeatsandlyrics tonight in Brooklyn at Industry City. Special thanks to artist and curator @dubelyoo Byron and I first experienced the show in 2019 during Art Basel Week, and were absolutely blown away. I had stimulation overload! I was overcome with awe and emotion at the show’s incredible art, music and atmosphere. It’s a celebration of hip hop, the artwork it inspires and culture. We traveled to Miami, New York and Philly over the years to experience the traveling show and always left buzzing. Totally inspired by a show that started over 20 years ago by two creative dreamers.
