FORGIVE ME FATHER // Feature Film I’m excited to hear that this feature film is nearing post production completion. I’ve been allowed to share a few of my DIT frame exports from the rushes. When I read the script offered to me by Producer @harvey_kevin I instantly saw an opportunity I wanted to grab. A story full of macabre and secretive elements, muddled memories as flashbacks and procedural police methods, all of which allowed me to create a different colour and textural pallete for each story strand. I shot the present day timeline with ARRI Master Primes and flashbacks on Super Baltars with +1 ProMist filters. 1/3 - @rosemayalaba // HIDE AND SEEK // I LOVE shooting music videos - especially when you work with a director who knows exactly what they want and director @itsvisionnaire ( George Guise ) is such a visually flamboyant creative it’s a joy to throw everything into the mix - anamorphic lenses / gimbal moves / lens flares / lens distortion - George creates such a stylish narrative that it’s easy to build a world around it. Working with fab gaffer @run_light ( Tom Nowell ) the technical recce allowed us to pre-plan a multitude of lighting set-ups and applications to ensure we shot every scene with the style desired. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM!!! It’s hard to describe the effect this incredible lady has on the world around her. No-one can believe she is 80 years old but to be honest the amount she has done in her lifetime I’d need another 80 just to catch up. A constant positivity, boundless empathy and care yet a steely and often stubborn determination to get the things done that need to be done. And I mean DONE. 40 years at Alder Hey children’s hospital, from student nurse to assistant director of nursing. Governor of Aintree hospital, on more than one occasion, President of the Soroptimists, during which she was voted by her peers to be Merseyside woman of the year 2013 , re-writing the manual on Palliative Care, an invited speaker around the country, including at Westminster, and most recently a diligent and ever present Chair and member of the Wirral branch of Dementia Together charity, constantly fundraising and creating schemes to care for those in need.  An indefatigable spirit. A role model for me and those close to me. My Mum. Sharon Bird. Happy Birthday - you’re one in a gazillion ❤️

Since Mo Salah joined Liverpool FC, he has received more yellow cards for celebrating his goals by ripping his top off at Man Utd than Man Utd have scored goals at Anfield. I won’t bother listing this guy‘s statistics because they are everywhere right now. What I will say is he has been a part of the most incredible days and nights I can remember as a football fan. You couldn’t chisel the grin off my face when he, Sadio Mané and Bobby Firmino were tearing teams apart across Europe. Emotions I never thought I could have as football fan ran through me again and again under his watch.  The incredulous looks on his teammates’ faces as he performed miracle after miracle has been a joy to witness.  And just when you thought he had shown us all he had, after the first game of this season he stood alone applauding the fans as tears flowed down his face - as Anfield Stadium belted out Diogo Jota’s song after his tragic death - well, I’m not ashamed to say, dear reader, that tore me apart… Thank you Mo. Thank you very, very much. You have been an ambassador not just for football, not just for Egypt and not just for LFC, you have been a role model for boys and men, secular and religious, across the world. I love Kevin Keegan. I hope he’s ok. I was young when he played for Liverpool but his performances and his legacy stuck around for years. The talk of how he ran, grafted, how he played like he’d die if he stopped. I love how passionate he is about football. As a manager he was unlike any other. The rants, the jokes, he talked like a mate. I had one of my most favourite days ever with him and it nearly didn’t happen. In 2000, when I’d been in London for just over a year, I was asked to photograph Mr Keegan for the homeless charity @sheltercharity - so off I skipped to Lancaster Gate, the then London offices of the @england football team. On arrival I knocked on his door and duly entered to be faced by one of my real life actual childhood heroes. He was as he is - grey haired, big grin and sparkling eyes. “Hello son! How you doin’? C’mon in!” He stepped to me and shook my hand. “How long d’you need?” “5 minutes mister Keegan. I know you’re busy” I said. We then pissed about with my 35mm film camera with flashgun and after I nervously snapped about 10-12 frames of him holding up the football jersey with the Shelter logo I said “That’s it. I’m done”. He looked genuinely surprised and said so “Photographers say they need 5 minutes but take forever! Thanks son.” We shook hands and I headed for the door. As my hand gripped the brass handle I stopped for a moment and took it all in. I suddenly knew this would be the last time I saw him so I took a breath and turned, he had his back to me at his desk, a huge window behind him overlooking Hyde Park. “Mister Keegan?” I said. He turned, his face listening. “I’ll probably never get this chance again so I just wanted to say, I’m a lifelong Liverpool fan and I wanted to say thanks for everything you did for us. You’re a massive part of our club and I just want you to know that. We all still think of you.” A grin ran across his face and he put his arms out wide. “Oh why didn’t you say so! C’mon in! Have a seat! Have you got to go?” “No” I grinned. And that’s how I spent an hour with Kevin Keegan, sat at his desk as he picked the squad for the 2000 Euros competition playing that Summer.
