A clip from my proof-of-concept short film âWindsweptâ.
In lockdown, I wrote a feature-length screenplay. With its genre being drama, it was a whole new task for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed creating these two complex characters as they balanced their toxic relationship.
In the final scene, the characters finally unpack everything, scattering around the house in a 20-minute intense scene that would require careful blocking and powerful performance. I knew deep down this film would likely never get made, but I found the whole process so cathartic that I took that final scene, cut about 10 pages of it (with unneeded context that would only make sense at the end of a feature film), gathered some friends, and we spent a long Saturday shooting this trimmed scene back in February.
Amongst these were the incredible, real-life couple,
@aislinndeath &
@mrrobertdukes who brought so much to the characters, delving into what they recognised and knew, and unpacking a relationship that did not hold the strength and teamwork they had managed to maintain.
@aj_esq came on as our DoP, and although he was given an extremely difficult task in an extremely short period of time (ended up being a 15-minute short shot in 9 hours), he did an absolutely great job of making it look beautiful, but also raw and real.
Then there are those who came to help, covering several tasks at once, and being an absolute dream, each of whom contributed to the intense, but ultimately extremely enjoyable day.

It was one of my favourite days of the year, and I canât wait to do it again.
For now though, enjoy this 2-minute clip from the film.
