Sound installation, 30min, in French and Greek
Collaboration between Charlotte Campbell and Saki Koulos
This sound work, developed in collaboration with Charlotte Campbell, sound artist and musician, brings together fragments of recorded interviews, environmental soundscapes from Greece, Sicily, and Belgium, and traces of music. Through layering and subtle distortion, voices emerge and recede—at times clear, at times distant—creating a dreamlike composition where whispers, echoes, and overlapping narratives suggest hidden stories, as if multiple voices are surfacing at once, waiting to be heard.
The sound installation was presented in dialogue with painted portraits in egg tempera depicting first-generation Greek migrant workers who moved to Belgium. It was also accompanied by a photographic archive composed of images shared by the families of the interviewed workers, connecting personal memory, migration histories, and intergenerational narratives.
Charlotte Campbell is a Berlin-based sound artist, musician and sound engineer working across immersive audio installations, experimental music and live performance. Her work explores the themes of memory, identity and perception, often using voice, field recordings and abstract sound design to construct spaces that sit between documentary and fiction. She is particularly interested in how sound can shape psychological and emotional experiences within physical environments, and how fragmented narratives can be reassembled through immersive listening to bring new meaning.
