Many juice packets, home cooked meals, brunches that become lunches and zoom calls later, Winnie, Zhixin and I have brewed a lil show — conversations with friends!
—
conversations with friends follows a dialogue between three creatives in their twenties, as they navigate the unsteady terrain of early adulthood together.
A chat about adulting (without the 101), laments about change and a future we couldn’t seem to see past our outstretched palms — somehow found their home in a stanza from Victoria Chang’s poem, Love Letters:
There is a bird and a stone
in your body. Your job is not
to kill the bird with the stone.
From this poem bloomed our letters, texts and images that respond to, interrupt, decipher, and complete one another’s voices.
Amidst wandering through the strange, generative discomfort of change, this exhibition tenderly holds the simple joys and freeing highs alongside the growing pains, goodbyes, griefs, and emotions that haven’t yet found their names.
It is a literal coming of age, witnessed and made together.
And it ends — or perhaps continues — with a question: is there a bird and stone in you?
