[REBRAND]
Want to kena how many more times? Substation & Sinema Old School long gone. Projector closed. Pearl’s Hill en bloc.
With our tongue-in-cheek rebrand ‘REPEAT OFFENCE’, we wanted to highlight the intentionality in PERSEVERING and creating our own spaces and communities in the margins, even and especially when times are punishing for third spaces. Spaces have closed, and more will close. We will close one day too. But we’ve been inspired by so many communities we have worked with (the artistic, the activist, the creative) to keep going. If financially-challenging third spaces is an offence to our society of efficiency, we’ll keep repeating this offence.
With this rebrand, we also officially launch our private micro-cinema project after three months of beta testing! If you are interested to screen something or need the space for private booking, reach out to us! Open to all!
With much love,
DES
19 MAY TUE 7:30PM: SHORT FILMS BY MAKO IDEMITSU | PRESENTED BY AMA WATCH SOME FILMS 📺
“Mako Idemitsu is a pioneering artist in experimental film/video. I discovered her works while browsing VK Video (russian youtube) and was immediately drawn to her unique style — most prominently involving the usage of CRT screens as an extension of the usually sterile sets her characters inhabit. Her best-known works explore the female identity through the lens of domesticity in Japan, usually played with a sense of wit and quiet transgression; an internal sense of the contemporary nuclear family falling apart. On top of that, this programme also showcases three of her early short films, before her signature sensibility truly took form. Come down and check them out!”

MAY - The Apu Trilogy
Join @shhhreyyy for Satyajit Ray’s landmark The Apu Trilogy, a cornerstone of Indian cinema and world cinema alike.
The trilogy traces the life of Apu from childhood to adulthood with remarkable tenderness, intimacy, and emotional clarity. Blending poetic realism with deeply observant storytelling, Ray’s works have influenced generations of filmmakers across the world, from Martin Scorsese to Akira Kurosawa and even Wes Anderson.

12 May Tues 7pm - Love & Pop (1998)
From the creator of Evangelion, Hideaki Anno, comes Love & Pop, an experimental coming-of-age film about three high school girls racing to see who can get the most cash the fastest. Am personally interested as someone who finds the Evangelion series fascinating and would like to see Anno’s live action chops. じゃ、またね!
