Thank you Sydney Theatre Critics for a memorable ceremony on Monday - I feel really lucky to have been a part of several of the productions that were recognised at the awards, including Grief Is The Thing With Feathers (Awarded Best Mainstage) and SISTREN (Awarded Best Independent).
@freyaschackarnott and I were also lucky enough to receive the ‘Best Sound Design And Composition Of A Mainstage Production’ award for our work on Grief Is The Thing With Feathers. Freya is an incredible composer and Cellist. and I’m honoured to be able to support her writing.
It was so lovely to see many close peers recognised for their respective crafts across the categories (to name a few:
@iolanthelovesyou ,
@dardinn_howard ,
@ianmichaelianmichael ,
@r.mcdonald_ ). A highlight each year at the STA is the gathering of many sound practitioners in one room (it’s rare we get to see each other when most shows have only one person, so we managed a photo below to prove that we each exist). I feel really privileged to be listed alongside these sound legends, many of which I have and continue to look up to. Steve Francis, Sabyasachi (Rahul) Bhattacharya,
@jethrowoodward ,
@alyxdennison ,
@maddy.picard ,
@tommehhogan and
@chelsea.lee.wheatley - congratulations on your designs and compositions.
I’d also like to specifically thank the Belvoir production team for the sound on Grief:
@renkenward ,
@tristanelliswindsor and Cameron Russell (with guest appearances from
@mattyjamesproducer and
@gfdemesa ). Lastly, a shoutout to
@jamespeterbrown and Clemmie Williams, both of whom I have considered my mentors since starting in Sydney. Thank you both for taking a chance on me, and for continuously going above and beyond to nurture my theatre practice and support me.
Here’s to another year of working hard to tell important stories well on our stages! I’ll try my best to continue to contribute~
