TK Abioye

Last night, @tkabioye and I went to see @lennykravitz at the John Cain Arena. The short version is that Lenny Kravitz is basically the coolest person alive. TK went out and brought a mesh shirt especially for the evening :) We were standing in the merch queue, and a kid approached TK and said, “Your hair is so cool!” Later, when we got to our seats, that same kid was sitting directly next to us. We learnt that it was his first ‘big’ concert and he was super excited - he even had his binoculars at the ready to make sure he had a good view. He asked TK if he could take a photo with him, because he wanted to send it to his dad and tell him he met Lenny Kravitz. Later that evening, that kid got a high-five from the actual Lenny Kravitz. Who is objectively much cooler than TK. Lenny worked his way through a mix of his classics and newer material. The production value of the show was awesome, the lighting and video components were top notch. TK421 had me grinning and Believe, which is one of my favourites felt almost spiritual. Later in the evening, (maybe during Are You Gonna Go My Way) Lenny commands the audience to ‘Jump!’ and we all obey. Have we all joined a cult? There’s no denying Lenny is sexy. He takes advantage of that, and when someone yells out, “I love you Lenny”, he responds with “I love you more, baby”, and I think the audience collectively melts. Body count: I’d read a review of the Auckland concert, and the reviewer said, “There’s a lot of Lenny at a Lenny Kravitz concert,” and yes, yes, there is, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. As the crowd spilled out into the evening, we mingled with the crowd from the Doja Cat concert at Rod Laver Arena. Both crowds sported a lot of mesh and fishnet, Lenny’s fans in black, Doja’s in Pink. @TKAbioye ’s first professional gig out of NIDA is as the assistant company manager for MJ the Musical. On Saturday morning, @ross.fynmore and I flew to Sydney for the show’s Australian premiere and the afterparty; we didn’t actually get to see a lot of TK, but we were able to have breakfast with him before he started work on Saturday, and time with him and Jemima at the afterparty. We also had breakfast with them on Sunday before they both had to head off to work. The afterparty was at the Establishment Bar, and it was genuinely so lovely to see TK mingling with co-workers and witnessing the relationships he’s built since joining the crew. Also delightful was to be introduced to his co-workers and have them say kind, warm things about him. I sent a message to TK’s Dad to tell him how nice this was, and we both agreed he’s turned out pretty well. Running the length of one wall of the afterparty was a giant charcuterie board/table, which I was utterly obsessed with, so much so that when I went to the bar to get another drink, I asked for a glass of prosciutto. The bartender laughed and said, “Sorry, that’s not my department.” and then offered me a glass of prosecco instead. We also watched a masterclass in photo wall posing, but we didn’t get a passing grade when we had our turn at posing at the wall. Happy 365 days @jemima.robin I’m sure everyone that knows me is surprised that you’ve managed to put up with me for this long, so am I to be honest, but I’m happy that you did. I just wish we had more photos of us than of the food we eat. I hope we can make the next year just as fun as the first, and I can’t wait to see what you’ve chosen for dinner tonight. I love you ❤️
