Today is the day, record release day, Blue Has A Range on Sunnyside Records. So happy it's out there and forever grateful to my compadres Jon Cowherd, Ben Allison and Brian Blade for their great playing and friendship. I put together a little homespun video of photos and such from the session and CD design. Hope you enjoy! @sunnysiderec @joncowherdmusic @benallisonmusic @brianbladeofficial @bunkerstudio

Before our ACN concert at @thelocalsaugerties last night we took the opportunity to visit with our good friend @steve_swallow_bass . We sat around the kitchen table drinking coffee and talking about all the musicians who we've worked with and have inspired us over the decades. Steve's memory is crazy. It's incredible to hear him pull all these names out of the air, as he made connections between people who I didn't understand were connected. My first bass lesson, when I was 15 years old, was with Steve and I've been learning from him ever since. I'm excited to hear his new album which he told us is in the can with a set release date. I'll let him tell you all about that. Meanwhile, send Steve his flowers, if you get the chance. He's an American treasure.

Tonite, Sunday February 15th Adam Kolker | Steve Cardenas | Billy Mintz LunÀtico is thrilled to present this top of the line trio performing selections from their new recording “Beckon” which Popmatters calls “a shimmering, beautiful record, and one that sounds like few others in today’s jazz.” Join us! @madamsmoker , reeds
@stevecardenasmusic , guitar
#billymintz , drums ***TWO SETS: 9PM & 10:15PM***
***$10-15 (CASH) SUGGESTED DONATION***
***LUNATICO HAS A FULL DINNER AND COCKTAIL MENU SO COME EARLY TO EAT!*** ADAM KOLKER worked with Ray Barretto for eight years. He also appears in New York City with the Village Vanguard Orchestra, Fred Hersch’s “My Coma Dreams,” the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Bruce Barth, Judi Silvano and Lucia Pulido. For many years, his own group included John Abercombie and Billy Hart. Guitarist STEVE CARDENAS began his musical career in Kansas City and has been an integral part of the New York City jazz community since 1995. He was a longstanding member of the Paul Motian Electric Bebop Band, Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, the Steve Swallow Quintet, as well as Joey Baron’s, Killer Joey. Steve is currently a member of the Ben Allison Band, John Patitucci Electric Guitar Quartet, Jon Cowherd Mercy Project, Adam Nussbaum Lead Belly Project and has also performed with such diverse artists as Claude “Fiddler” Williams, Paul McCandless, Madeleine Peyroux, Norah Jones, Eliane Elias and Marc Johnson. The New Yorker says of BILLY MINTZ: “All too many drummers pound and roar, but a rare few can make their instruments purr and sing. Mintz, who has found a niche navigating between avant-garde channels and more conventional ones, is a careful yet adventurous stylist who recalls the late Paul Motian in his sensitivity and musicality.”

The legend that is #ToninhoHorta @toninhohorta played another beautiful show tonight at New York’s newest jazz club in the West Village called #Birds @birds_ny (birdland, ornithology, red rooster… NY really loves its winged animals… and its fish too!) Anytime Toninho plays in town not just the Brazilian crew comes out, but everyone who knows and appreciates the history of this master, and all the young musicians who want to have a chance to see and even jam with Horta. Tonight’s concert was organized by bassist #AlexClaffy @claffybass @alexanderclaffy and featured among others special guest #SteveCardenas @stevecardenasmusic
