Pleased to contribute this painting to the @kalaartinstitute auction benefit opening this Thursday. This was one of the first pieces I’ve made that incorporated a custom frame, a game-changer for my painting practice🪞

I’m honored to be included in BOOTLEG alongside a ton of my favorite artists and peers @bassandreiner presented by @basementvhs . It seemed timely to bring back this @sadvicious design that sold out every time I made a few for our merch table. I think that most people thought I was joking when I said that the inks were really runny and would stain their laundry (I was not).
This new batch is *slightly* more stable - I think - and the design feels of this moment, wherein grift and graft have become the norm. Hope to see you at the opening @minnesotastreetproject March 7th 🦅

@traywickcontemporary and @pacificsawworks are pleased to present “opened and split,” an exhibition of new works by @annievought (Santa Fe, NM). This solo exhibition of large format works marks an important moment in the artist’s career and a return to the Bay Area where her signature cut-paper reliefs first developed.
The remarkable details that comprise Vought’s constructions bely their own depth; thousands of hand-cut fragments implore close inspection, but ultimately become consumed by the larger visual effect of the whole object. The impossibly intricate elements of Vought’s meticulous efforts are only fully realized in the full and finished works, evoking Color Field painting and the “All-Over” effect of Abstract Expressionism. Transforming paper in a self-described “painterly manner,” Vought achieves an impactful sense of stenciled flatness, enhanced by the chosen medium of black construction paper displayed on a white wall. But where her previous efforts sometimes relied on paper and the X-Acto knife alone, the compositions here incorporate subtle, additional moments of color and texture on the paper’s surface, as hints of oil pastel, sequins, glitter, glue drips, and spray paint adorn the compositions and further conflate Vought’s deeply personal imagery with the constructed object.
Annie and her family are central to our world here in the Bay Area and this homecoming means so much to so many. If you know Annie and her artwork, you love her. If you don’t, you’re about to.
Join us Saturday @traywickcontemporary 3-5pm and DM for info on a big dinner get-together afterwards.

We’re honored to be working with Annie on ‘opened and split’, a new exhibition that brings her work back to the Bay Area, where her cut-paper reliefs first took shape. Built through thousands of hand-cut and collaged elements, the new works unfold slowly — dense, tactile, and materially rich.
Opening February 7th.
