It’s pretty difficult to sum up what making this record has meant to me over these last few years, and hopefully those words will flow soon. But for now, I just want to offer immense gratitude to my collaborators.
@stephenpatota , if my songs are the bones, your musicianship, vision, patience, precision, soulfulness, sonic risk-taking, and steady belief in this music is the flesh, breath, and blood that made it come alive. Thank you for pushing me beyond what I thought was possible and giving yourself so wholeheartedly over to this project for years. From sloppy demos to re-building entire arrangements, to talking me off the ledge when I thought about scrapping the whole thing, your buoyant and eager “yes, and…” was my anchor and my wings.
@jondelvaux what the hell. You are a genius, you are my brother, you are the first person who I ever felt truly “heard” me, playing half-written songs on your front porch in 2016. You would just say, “do that again. Play that again,” and go and grab your guitar and in 30 seconds there was a full song. Making this record with you felt like that, just coming in with bare bones and good hook and you hearing the exact mic placement, choir, an orchestra, a whole musical in your unhinged and wild imagination. Thank you for the countless hours, soul, and care you put into making this shit sound as good as it could possibly sound.
@tbdrummer86 , how are you simultaneously tighter than drum machine and the most sensitive, dynamic, feeling player I’ve ever worked with? You approached this whole thing such reverence and good humor and absolute precision. I still get the chills anticipating particular fills and crashes you hit when listening back. Thank you.
@peterlabberton , I couldn’t believe you said yes to mixing this thing, when I got your email back it was like “oh shit now it’s real!!” You melted transitions seamlessly and from the dense fog of our weird ass stems you cohesively clarified each subtle wisp of sound with excellence and finesse. And you were a blast to work with! Thank you!!
