Bishée 🦬 15 1/4 x 15 1/4 inches, acrylic and beadwork on handmade paper, 2026. This fella is headed to the National Museum of Wildlife Art @wildlifeartjh in Jackson Hole, Wyoming to join his bison buddies in an exhibit titled “Bison-tennial: From Colonization to Rematriation” which will be on display this summer (May 16 - August 23, 2026). “The exhibit will examine the buffalo’s role in shaping the history of the United States, its important place in Native American cultures, and the impact of recent rematriation programs within modern Native communities.” My people have a long and strong relationship with Bison. They are closely tied to our history, culture and identity as Apsáalooke. I am inspired by their strength and resilience, as well as how their presence and behaviors support the health of the whole ecosystem. I am also connected to them through my Apsáalooke name, Bisháakinnesh (“Rode Buffalo”). It was given to me by my mum’s uncle Ronnie Yellowmule, Daaxpiitcheiiaagexxiichish (“The Grizzly Bear Watching Over Him”) an important grandpa in my life. I carry it with the reminder to honor and cherish these beings, the land, and the other plants and animals that we share it with. One of the ways I celebrate them is through my artwork. OoOoO also!! This is my first project working on paper crafted by @porridgepapers ! !! i got some awhile back and have been saving it for something special. When invited to make a pice centering our bison relatives it felt like the perfect time to try it out. I love it + am excited to make more things with it 🔜

this winter felt like spring (troubling) but now the spring also feels like spring (nice) it is the season of frog rain boots 🐸 . one of my best buddies had this same style of frog boot when we were tots and i was so envious that i turned into a toad! i was glad to find out 20 years later they make them for adults too. perhaps i shall paint a frog and/or toad soon to celebrate for the past few months I have been working on an illustration project which i am excited to share about soon, and making some lil pieces for the upcoming spring/summer markets. some stepping in puddles as well. those are my updates!

It is perfect-bound, the interior poetry and illustrations are risograph-printed, and each cover is hand beaded + letterpress printed on handmade recycled paper. It is published by the wonderful Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, NY @wsworkshop I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them!
