Ontmoet Vertical Blue, onze nieuwe productie, die in september 2026 in première gaat. We zijn volop aan het onderzoeken, schetsen, voorzichtig bouwen. Geheel in lijn met de achterliggende gedachte van Vertical Blue staat niets nog vast, we laten de controle los, duiken diep in materiaal en methodes, en (uiteraard met een heleboel vette ideeën) geven we ruimte aan het proces (letterlijk en figuurlijk).
“Een paar weken geleden was ik in Dahab, een klein plaatsje in Zuid-Egypte om te leren freediven. Freediven is een vorm van duiken waarbij men in één ademtuig tot grote diepte duikt en ook weer boven komt. Ervaren duikers beleven vanaf 30 meter onderwater een free fall; de druk onderwater duwt hen dieper de oceaan in.
“It’s like being swallowed by the ocean, becoming part of it” zegt freediver Alessia Zecchini.
Ik ben niet ver gekomen daar in Egypte, onderwater. Er zat veel te veel spanning in mijn lichaam, mijn diafragma werd maar niet zacht, mijn longen konden niet inkrimpen en ik liep keer op keer tegen dezelfde grenzen op. Mijn lichaam hield te stevig vast, was hard. Was ik bang? Bang om los te laten, kwijt te raken? Wat precies? Controle, veiligheid, het bekende? Ik ben toch juist dapper?”
