Saw @drichardbailey post earlier about a @johnnycdrums "3 minutes of pocket" challenge. Love this kind of drummer stuff so much more than a chops bonanza. Plus it let me fuck around with the new DB-30 plug from @xlnaudio . Enjoy! Or just scroll right past! Doesn't matter either way!!! ❤️🫡
This last bunch of John Carpenter shows have been so much fun. This project started almost 10 years ago and has truly only gotten better with time. I feel deeply grateful to have been included in something so wonderfully unique. @johncarpenterofficial@ludrium@daniel_davies , thank you guys for taking @boyjohnny@jkonesky and me on this ride!@macleodfoh@handadley@breckinridge and #danielknowles - you all are the BEST at what you do. Special thanks to @theofficialsandyking for always being amazing and to John Carpenter for making so much incredible art. Legend.

For almost as long as I’ve been asked, I’ve answered that Jack DeJohnette is my favorite drummer. It started a couple years after I first hit a drum and continues to this day. I love his playing so much that it feels like it shoots straight into my heart. His musicality was all heart. All emotion. Every note he played dripped with purpose. Nothing he did happened twice - or by accident. All of it was so important. I’m so lucky I got to see him play a few times. With KJ and GP, with his band, with Gateway. Man what a loss this is. Rest in peace JD.
Five years ago John Kimbrough called me with some incredible news. He was asked back for a second round of submissions for a composing job and, remembering that he and I had talked so much about trying to work as composers together, he said this was maybe the time. He came over and we put a scene up on the screen. There was a moose inside a family’s home in Alaska and they were trying to figure out how to handle the chaos. We immediately dove in and assembled a palette of instruments that sounded “like Alaska”. A bass kalimba, a bass harmonica, a harmonium, a dolceola, and a 14” deep antique marching snare drum. Woody, earthy, organic, earnest - all without being too overpowering. No guitars. It was almost immediate and it felt like the right start. We worked on that scene (and two more) and eagerly sent them off.
Now, five years and 97 episodes later, we have just completed our last one. The Great North has become a family member. I’ve spent so many hundreds of hours listening to the characters’ voices, writing songs for them, singing songs about them, and helping tell their incredible stories. So many hours marveling at John’s perfect mood-capturing underscore and songs, adding to them, him doing the same with mine, both of us constantly buoyed by the show’s incredible writing and performances. All masterfully directed by the music team and the show’s North Stars. These five years that took us through a pandemic and so much more were unbelievably beautiful when seen through the lens of this show. Wendy and Lizzie Molyneaux, you two are the literal best. The world you created is chock full of beauty and we have all been beyond lucky to explore it. Thank you for your trust and creativity. Thank you for inviting us to participate. Thank you for your awe inspiring talents. What a fantastic journey you have taken us all on!
Maybe one day we can all somehow go back to Lone Moose for another chaotic moose ride through the Tobin living room. Fingers crossed.

A few weeks ago, Reggie, Tim, Larry, and I gathered together at Los Angeles’s premiere eastside Paella Pit Studios for one last victory romp where we whipped up a lil Christmas goodie just in time for your peak holiday playlist traffic. Out today on @brainfeederrecords
Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to everyone!
Here I am playing drums in an El Camino for the first (last?) time. It was for a video shoot for tonight’s episode of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver. @themikeviola took the writers’ words, crafted a perfect song, and kindly asked me to play drums on the recording. You’ll see Will Ferrell singing and you will maybe possibly kinda barely see me in that El Camino if you just👏tune👏in👏!!!
