This is Language 1: Intuition from my favorite @thecontortionist record, “Language”.
When I say this song changed my life, I’m not kidding. This record took this band of dudes from my hometown of Noblesville, Indiana and shifted the paradigm from the prog/deathcore sounds of Exoplanet and Intrinsic to a fresh, wisened fusion/prog/death sound. They also came into their current lineup, adding @jordanhotdogcart / @eric.guenther__ / @michael_lessard for this record. Mike is still my favorite vocalist to emerge from this scene, lyrically and vocally.
This was the single most challenging song I’ve ever been tasked with learning and performing - this was the closer every night, and this is the EASY part of the song. 😂 This band has an incredible way of making the strangest things sound and feel easy, but it’s not by any stretch of the imagination 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
I look back at my time playing with these incredible musicians I now can call friends with fondness despite the immense pressure I put on myself to be as excellent every night as the musicians I was sharing a stage with.
When I say this song changed my life, I mean it - the entire trajectory of my career went to new heights and I’m still riding that wave to this day. If you’ve never experienced this album before, I can’t recommend it enough. 🖤

In keeping with the traditional, this weeks reveal is a stunner from our latest Mission Commander, Mr. Johnny Concannon (@johnnycdrums ).
Pulling inspiration from 1980’s resto-mod GMC pickups and vintage Galaxy Sparkle Ludwig’s, Johnny wanted something classy and timeless that spoke to his love of old-school vibes and good times. With a translucent black base, and a copious amount of galaxy sparkle glitter, “Yo Unc” is as classy as the man himself - Moonshot Unc, that is.
They set marks the first production version of Apollo 2.0 and carry the official MDC-001 and 002 designation, making them truly the start of a new era for Moonshot.
Johnny, as always, it’s a pleasure to work with you and call you part of the family. We are so excited to see what you do with these moving forward, and thank you for being one of the best parts of the Moonshot Team!!

seriously though, I will be needing a @sonordrumco Vintage Series kit in my life, already plotting how to get my own after spending about 5 mins playing this set yesterday. They do everything I want drums to do and are just beyond elegant. Exceptional. Beautiful. Truly an instrument that I cannot wait to play today!!!!

Gladstone is a great way to simplify executing accents and taps, and I find that it largely applies to OTHER techniques, which is why I’ve found myself looking at it as more of a concept than a technique unto itself.
Sanding you don’t want to take my word for it, I think the (still) stunning work of Buddy Rich and Joe Morello, two of Gladstone’s students might speak with more volume about the efficacy of his approach!

@theofficialai3 was my childhood hoop hero!! I just always thought he had swag around his play style. I remember my mom got me a pair of black and gold I3 sneakers from an outlet mall outside of Cleveland in the summer of 1999 and I thought I was the hottest shiiiii in the neighborhood for a min there. They were my first legit sneakers I’d ever owned and babied them, brushes the rocks out of the treads after walking back to my dad’s Pontiac Grand Am after basketball practice - gotta keep them COURT READY even though they were also my school shoes. 😆
I always loved that even though he was a high scorer, I3 was also an incredible team player, creating opportunities for everyone around him to elevate their game. I’ve always appreciated the kinds of players that aren’t totally dominating their team even when the entire game revolves around them. The 76ers were a fun team to watch during his era!
Oh yeah, I played some drums today, I like those things too 😂
