‘The Grotto’ is a collaborative installation of an interior environment by artists @spiraro__ and @hilarygreen__ . The exhibition is part of Melbourne Design Week and presents functional designs using site-specific materials such as seaweed and rocks found at Victorian beaches. By reimagining an interior space that values organic materials, forms and textures in contemporary design, this immersive experience explores alternative approaches to living closer to the natural world. The exhibition includes sculptural objects, lamps and furniture, all made from biomaterials, clay, found objects and natural fibres. These works combine hard and grounded with translucent and soft, while playing with how light can also be a source of wonder. Through this project, both artists bring together their interests in sustainable materials and sculpture to create an interior that blurs boundaries between natural and constructed worlds. Exhibition open all weekend 8 McIver St Brunswick Sat 16 and Sun 17 May, 10 am – 6 pm Public opening event Friday 15 May, 5:30 pm – 9 pm Immersive exhibition evening Saturday 16 May, 7:30 pm – 9 pm (ticketed) The event offers an opportunity to spend time inside the space to observe, draw and reflect on the installations alongside a live music soundscape. #melbournedesignweek #biomaterials

cyclic May 21-24 @abbotsfordconvent Introducing @spiraro__ Spiraro is a Naarm/Melbourne-based artist working across textiles, sculpture, biomaterials, and lighting. Their work explores the material life of textiles, both living and lived, through a heightened sensory experience. They work with natural pigments derived from rust and plant matter, biomaterials such as seaweed and bacterial leather, metal, found objects, and discarded textiles, interweaving these elements into sculptural pieces that question how future materials might coexist with those of the past. Blurring the line between organic and human-made, their work sits in the tension between what is grown and what is discarded. - - - First image thanks to @hilarygreen__ Second and third images thanks to @clemcnabb

Thank you takayna and @bobbrownfoundation for all that you teach me. An incredibly inspiring week learning skills and forest knowledge in takayna to help protect one of the world’s last undisturbed, ancient rainforests. This week brought hopeful news - after years of community resistance and care, MMG has abandoned plans to dump toxic mine waste in this valley. A huge testament to collective action, perseverance & love for place. Takayna still needs ongoing protection. Mining and logging pressures remain, and continued support is crucial. Ive popped a link in my bio to learn more. 🤎 Photos 1 + 5 by @nina.pirola
