When we brought together homelessness system and other justice-seeking comrades to a series of Social Dreaming Matrixes, we didn’t know what would happen. It is difficult to describe the depth of the love, the grief, the restlessness, the fear, the longing, the immobilization our collective is experiencing when we shut our eyes at night.
Social Dreaming is a practice of bringing our individual dreams into the collective, making shared meaning through the offerings, associations, visions and feelings that emerge. Dreams and associations are shared without attachment to the dreamer, but as a part of the whole we all hold pieces of. The goal is to identify patterns, themes, and dynamics within the group’s collective unconscious, revealing insights, new ideas, and emerging possibilities. Yes, literal dreams.

Last year, we watched a lot of our homelessness system comrades struggle to save what is being lost, fix what was already broken, and stay relentlessly hopeful - because people need a strong face. Any crack in the shield, and everything could fall apart.
We felt, and still feel, caught between two worlds: one dying, one not yet born. A lot of the time we feel alone there, even though we know intellectually that we are not. We feel the urge to act, and cant figure out exactly what to do - all the in system and extra-system tactics feel out of place and insufficient.
