Founded by Lloyd Evans, a chartered structural engineer with over 10 years of experience in building design and construction, Spark Structures aim to design beautiful and efficient structures.
Before founding Spark Structures, Lloyd worked for leading structural design consultancies both in the UK and Australia, where he delivered a number of award winning large-scale international art projects, high-end residential and public buildings, and conservation focused refurbishment projects.
Spark Structures is a structural engineering design consultancy based in South Wales and working on projects throughout the UK.

Great to see the timber frame starting to come together on a self-build passivhaus church conversion we've been working on with Sam from Radicle Architecture.
The foundation is an insulated raft slab using a system by @greenraftuk to accommodate the clay soils on site and avoid undermining the existing church walls, whilst providing a continuous insulated envelope when combined with the timber framed superstructure.
The timber framed walls and roof are made up of timber I-joists for ease of construction and access within the existing church, and to allow for a thick insulation zone of recycled paper insulation. All the components have been supplied by Pasquill as precut elements to speed up construction.

Great to see some photos of a recently completed extension we worked on with Group 19 (@matt_group19 ) and Sam from Exact Building.
The simple offset column allows the extension roof to cantilever and form a larger uninterrupted opening to the garden.

AFTER // BEFORE.
Spark Structures worked with Group 19 (@matt_group19 ) and Exact Building to carry out a complete extension and refurbishment which saw an additional storey added to this 1950’s bungalow, along with a host of improvements to the energy efficiency.
Spark Structures were engaged at concept design stage by the architect to carry out a thorough investigation of the existing structure and a feasibility study based on the proposals. This collaborative approach helped develop a solution that maximises the use of the existing building and minimises the use of additional materials, with all ground floor perimeter walls and footings reused.
The highly efficient structural scheme required only four small concrete pad foundations to support a lightweight steel frame that supports the predominantly timber extension.

The moment Trinity Vortex took flight! ✈️
Over the course of 2 icy days in December 22, artist #SynnoveFredericks and her wonderful support team slowly pieced together the individual steam bent ash sections, to finalise the artwork Trinity Vortex, designed for and in collaboration with students of Trinity Academy Lockleaze.
✨ It was such a joyous moment for all involved watching the piece go up in the atrium at the school! A constant reminder to the students and future students to come of their collaborative involvement in the community of Trinity Academy.
