Now on to Day 2 (Fri 15th) where @sacconi_quartet will perform Haydn, a brand new commission by @freya_waley_cohen and Dvořák’s Bass Quintet with @dmargulisbass at the beautiful St Eansywthe’s Church.

✨ Free concert ✨ Join us this bank holiday Monday at 1pm. The concert is the culmination of an intensive three-day chamber music course bringing together young chamber musicians from the UK and Iceland, coached by @bghancox (violin) and @robinmichael76 (cello). Two quartets share the stage, performing Shostakovich’s mighty Quartet No. 8, alongside extracts from Mendelssohn and Haydn. Come and support the next generation of chamber musicians!

3 weeks today! The Sacconi Chamber Music Festival returns to Folkestone from 14–17 May, marking its 19th year of bringing outstanding chamber music to the Kent coast.
Centred around the internationally acclaimed @sacconi_quartet , the Festival offers four days of concerts ranging from new music and world premieres to much-loved classics. This year is particularly special as the Quartet will be celebrating their 25th anniversary, making them Britain’s longest-established string quartet with its original line-up.
The Festival opens at The Grand an 14 May with a celebration of new music curated by British composer @woolrichjohn . Filled with sparkling miniatures of contemporary music, each of the 4 short sections will have food and drink breaks in between. The evening brings composers, performers and audience together with many of the featured composers attending in person.

Today in National Tree Week, rather appropriately, we are gently launching my new project Treeline into the world.
‘What IS Treeline?’ Well, next spring, I will be embarking on a 2,500 mile cycling adventure creating a new musical work from direct recordings of ancient trees across 10 European countries.
Creative partners across Europe have chosen a local tree, important to their local community. A ‘profile’ has been made of the tree and its surroundings, including a recording captured from inside each tree. All this information goes into a new work that I am now composing.
From next May I will be cycling to all 20 locations following old growth forests and their remnants, performing concerts and working with local communities. The project uses music, data collection, field recordings and concert performances to engender greater respect for trees and biodiversity, and increase understanding of why these things are important.
The tour will culminate in a concert @kingsplacelondon on 23rd July, with tickets going on sale on the 11th December.
