Darragh Morgan (violin) and Mary Dullea (piano) are playing music by Bryn Harrison, Cassandra Miller and Morton Feldman at The Grand on Thursday 26 February at 7pm. Link in bio.
Composer Bryn Harrison will introduce a programme of his extraordinary music: ‘The quietly oscillating, hypnotic surfaces … draw the listener into a delicate web of abstract patterns and near repetitions.’
Morton Feldman’s Spring of Chosroes is inspired by a sumptuous carpet of the same name, reputed to have been made for the Sassanian King Chosroes I in the sixth century AD. Woven with silk, gold, silver and rare stones, the carpet depicted a garden akin to Paradise. The image of this inspired the isolated ‘gems’ of sound, the translucent, interwoven harmonic timbres, and suggesting the form of the work.
‘Cassandra Miller’s music has knocked me sideways. Bold, kind-hearted, wistful, brave, simple, sophisticated... miraculously beautiful’ (Herald Scotland). Darragh will perform For Mira and Mary will perform Sinner, don’t let this harvest pass.
