Surprise! After four years, I am finally updating my header across socials and my website! My old one was a teapot (which is funny, because I don’t drink tea very often) but I’d been putting it off until I found something that really felt like me.
October is National Depression Awareness Month, and anyone who knows me knows I’ve been open about my lifelong struggle with depression, how it left a heavy, dark stain over much of my youth and young adulthood. Just a year ago, I was barely functioning, trapped in a storm I didn’t think I could weather. That’s when I took the hardest, most important step - I started therapy, which ultimately, led me to The Bird TM.
A friend invited me to go birding while we were both swimming in the lake. I’d never really done it before, but I like hiking, so why not?
Our first excursion was unforgettable in more ways than one. A massive storm rolled in that morning, thunder roaring, lightning strikes, rain soaking us within minutes. It was just me, @shanetolentin0 ,and three others, all hoping to see some birds without wiping out in the mud. (1/?)
