Gay San Franciscans began flocking to the Russian River in the 1920s and never stopped. The area served as a vacation destination, with people taking ferries, trains and cars to its redwood-lined riverbanks.
Now, two collectives in Sonoma County, @solarpunkfarms and @shelterwood_collective , care for the land while cultivating joy, belonging and even magic.

A day late to Giving Tuesday as is solar punk tradition, but our 2025 Annual Report is now live!
We love to look back on the year and see what we’ve accomplished together, and since no one is strictly asking us to make an annual report, we decided we could have a little 8-bit fun with it.
Huge thank you to everyone who made this year bigger badder and better than ever. We are already PUMPED for next year, and have some big juicy ambitious projects in the works.
For the first time ever we are making a big fundraising push so we can expand our impact locally and beyond. If you can donate, we love you so much, and if you can share and connect us with donors you are also loved.
Links are in bio and on our website to our donate link and the full Annual Report. 💚💚💚
5 year farm update! (also the average time it takes us to make a reel)
Our baby (read: plot of soil) just had her fifth birfday party and she’s looking so grown and glown. Just putting this little update in your feed for a moment of sunshine in what is, let’s face it, probably gonna be an otherwise bleak news day.
Love all you people in our phone ❤️🔥
(We’re on a 11 hour train to Montreal and Spencer was editing this for 8 of those. How you content creators like….always be contenting?)
This weekend was a damn fever dream. Thank you @solarpunkfarms & @itsmaryvice and everyone who helped and attended. We definitely need more pun themed dinner parties in our life. Where to next??
(Menu reveal to come…… 😉)
Thank you to all the brilliant, kooky little flowers that made our first Spring Fling the most special wild time. Safe to say we can’t wait to run it back next year 🌼 ⚡️
Most importantly thank you to our tireless punk @corkedupshawty for making this Avant Garden party happen, to Douglas, the brilliant mind at @patternparties who brought this photobooth to life, @eileenmroche for these iconic images, @eatingwlily as always for the most gorgeous spring spread, and DJ David Wilson for making our millennial knees remember how to drop it low.
And three cheers to @anactualwalnut for our new farm carrot mascot 🥕
Thank you @bayarea_butterflygardener for leading us on this native pollinator garden install! What a wildly fun and productive day in the rain sun and dirt. 🌱 🐝
Spring sprung early and we are absolutely overflowing with bounty. Like please, help, our fridge is too full. No fear, all a perfect excuse to finally get our Solar Punk Farm Stand up and running!
Granted it is missing a few finishing touches but she’s here she’s queer and she’s ready to serve you up some fresh organically grown veggies and flowers.
Come be one of the first to grace her cute little embrace !!
