House of Soil — Prologue A journey on finding House of Soil. What is life? A dance of giving… and receiving. For us, design is not just what you see. It’s soil. Water. Life. A sanctuary for the soul. We walked a new path— drawn by a vision. In nature’s resilience, we found inspiration. Like the lotus in murky waters… our work emerged from connection. We met artisans. Healers. Storytellers. Their craft honors the earth— each piece, a fragment of harmony. In space, these elements sing. A symphony of stillness… lifting the heart to peace. This is “Soil Style”— no fixed form, only flow. Like Buddhist emptiness… alive, ever-renewing. Design transcends aesthetics. It’s a vessel— for meaning. For community. We savored sustenance that pauses time. Nourishing body… and spirit. True balance comes from sharing. From roots tangled in growth. From stories woven into wood. This is House of Soil— where craft meets curiosity. Where boundaries dissolve… into life itself. With humble hearts, we thank the visionary eye behind this moving tapestry: Martino Wayan of Niskala Studio, whose lens captured not just images, but the soul within the Soil Philosophy. Thank you for listening, for seeing, for giving our philosophy its first true echo. And to all who walk with us— this is the Prologue House of Soil. Let this prologue be the invitation. The film will be the embrace. 🎥: @niskala.studio @martinowayan With Gratitude: @lostlindenberg @mahteh.ceramic @_rumahhujan @sun.contemporary @handepharuei @maryverspoor @shayan.cd @lavastonedesign Special Thanks: @sciencewerk @erikackurihara #HouseOfSoil #Soilstudios #Soil #DesignWithSoul #InteriorPhilosophy ConsciousDesign PoeticSpace NiskalaStudio MartinoWayan

Alex and OJ named their Zhongshan home “House of Soil.” In Buddhist teachings, all phenomena arise from conditions yet are inherently empty—and soil embodies this wisdom. It embraces decay while nurturing new life. The concept of “Soil”came to them as an epiphany upon their return: soil is where all things return, and also where life begins. Rather than purely following Buddhism, they believe more in applying the wisdom of Buddhist teachings to daily life. The design philosophy of SOIL is something one can perceive through the senses—just as they once felt the warmth of the earth with the soles of their feet. Every inch of land is unique; every tree and stone carries a living presence. 📷 @studioperiphery Styling @soil.studios #elledecoration #elledecorationchina #decohome #home #homeinteriors #homeinspirations #soil #interior #interiordesign #designinspiration #design

We are thrilled to announce that Seventh Essence of Soil has been named an Honoree in Interior Design magazine’s prestigious Best of Year Awards, in the Tabletop category. Soil was founded to be more than an interior design studio; it is a new brand dedicated to promoting a holistic lifestyle centered on soil, spirituality, wellness, nature, and sustainability. Our vision extends into exploring the creation of natural-based products, goods, and clothing. We believe soil is the fundamental essence from which all life emerges. Inspired by this connection to nature, we craft creations that celebrate its inherent beauty. This vision is embodied in our debut tableware collection, brought to life through a collaboration with our first artistic partner, Seline Kocher of Mahteh Ceramics. The collection draws inspiration from the lotus flower—a Buddhist symbol of purity and beauty. Comprising seven pieces, they are designed to stack elegantly, mirroring the delicate form of a lotus bud. Crafted with our signature pale sand and clay brown glazes, each piece is accentuated by a striking black trim. The raw, textured surfaces and organic dotted details reflect the grounded, essential spirit of earth and soil. As we continue our journey, collaborating with master artisans from Bali, Hong Kong, and mainland China, we will create products that trace our evolution. This lotus-inspired tableware is a pure expression of the Soil essence—a reminder that everything begins from the ground. We invite you to explore “branding soil” with us: the foundational concept where wellness is rooted in nature, and balance enriches life. Thank you to @thecindygram & @interiordesignmag . Our deepest gratitude to @mahteh.ceramic @selinekocher for her exquisite craftsmanship. #IDBestOfYear #soil #TabletopDesign #Ceramics #SustainableDesign #LifestyleBrand

House of Soil | Furnishing House of Soil was a sojourn in seeking essentialism and purity—like soil itself, stripped of excess. From communal activities to rituals of cleansing and rest, this apartment provides reminders to live a purposeful life, grounded in what truly nourishes. It conceptualises luxury not as the acquisition of exquisite items, but as a way of thinking: humble, fertile, and deeply rooted. Shot by @studioperiphery @coolbeancake

House Of Soil | There are two rooms for the children, where neat lines and soft edges produce restorative environments. The beds perch on raised platforms, with upturned bedheads wrapped in fabric. In the boy’s bedroom, grey and olive green tones add nature’s colour while the girls’ bedroom is more spirited, with a palette of blush, orange and peach.
