Weeks posts
A week in the life / gear nerding out time: We recently had the opportunity to get some hands-on time with the incredible Canon EOS C50 courtesy of @canonsingapore . 🤝🏽 To grab some test footage, we chucked the camera onto another tripod and spontaneously recorded moments on shoots, at the studio, and at home over the course of a typically busy week. Whilst we were also handed a set of five f1.4 L-series primes, we couldn’t resist testing out some recently acquired @lomography Petzval lenses — very dreamy. Shooting 7K 3:2 open gate is lots of fun, with so many ways to potentially crop in post or in camera, however the one function we didn’t expect to like so much was the in-camera digital zoom (clip 07.), great for checking lines when we’re not working with shift lenses, but also having the convenience of getting those in between focal lengths with a gentle push of a button was godsend. A nice little function for creative or comedic effect as well it seems. We’ll miss having this little thing around and will consider adding it to our ever growing list of gear. Thank you Nugene and Eugene @canonsingapore .

A very appropriate new year’s gift, feeding into my long-term attraction towards anything indigo. Thank you @lelabofragrances .

The world turns, another year goes by. 2025 marks ten years of Studio Periphery, another year so busy we completely forgot about the significance of a decade spent building something from nothing. Looking back, it feels like we’ve taken on every subject matter - from food to sneaker-culture, graphic design, portraiture to fashion, furniture and eventually the built environment. This year, we found ourselves in airports on an almost monthly basis, a familiar pre-pandemic routine we’ve quite enjoyed. Taking on projects away from home always resulted in looking at things with a new perspective and we hope to continue this trend. There are already exciting plans for the year ahead and we cannot wait to share them with you. Happy New Year and thank you to all clients, collaborators, friends and family. See you tomorrow. @coolbeancake & @aimes__ #studioperiphery

Italian Summer on 35mm. It's not often my 35mm cameras see the light of day because I simply love the 120 format, however I did pull out my old Nikon F100 a couple of times this year on trips to make some personal work. With the year coming to a close (and one or two available afternoons), I finally dragged myself to the lab to get a bag of film processed... with two rolls dating as far back as 2010. Here's a little series from earlier this year in Italy, where the sun was pure gold, the cars were older, and the people - happier. Photographed on Kodak Portra 400 with a Nikon F100. Lab processed and camera scanned using @negative.supply + NLP.

Six years with the Supra as the Studio Periphery mobile and it's time we parted ways. Ridiculous that it's managed to fit all my equipment and an assistant, even occasionally making cameos in projects. For two years it remained as a bone stock, black painted car, then the itch started when a certain architect 👀 I work with opened my eyes to the world of modifications. The idea was to keep everything that was added on genuinely Japanese (yes, we all know that underneath, this car is German) — Advan GT rims, Varis carbon fibre skirting, a Khul Racing spoiler, and HKS everything else. The icing on top was of course stripping the car down for a custom paint job. With juxtaposition always on top of mind, I felt that the Supra's aggressive design worked well with an unexpectedly soft colour. At the time, Singer had just debuted it's 911 Turbo Study, presented in a custom paint finish they named 'Wolf Blue'. This essentially became the main inspiration with final results coming in a little closer to Ferrari's Grigio Alloy. As the world races towards modernity, electrification and annoying touch screens, I've found myself (even more so than before) looking to the past to see the future. From cameras, furniture, clothing, hifi gear... cars, the yearning for a certain tactility and analog experience has become more appealing. Unfortunately, as we are based in Singapore, where cars can cost as much as a home, to make room for the next project means that the Supra will be looking for a new home. It's been a joyride, and till we meet again, Baby Blue. Photography: @studioperiphery

Today is our last day with @aimes__ little black Jimny. Funny that this has been our more “practical” car over the last five years. #suzukijimny

Flow state. After another incredibly busy year, I was finally able to break away for a week to cool off and think about the direction of the brand. 2025 will mark ten years of working as Studio Periphery. Styles have changed and ideas have evolved, but it has gotten to a point where some realignment feels necessary. Looking back to remember why we decided to dedicate our lives to this craft is important — our love for the art form. As this genre of work gains popularity with the mainstream, it is easy to get distracted by content (not fond of this term) that fuels us all to fit into what is acceptable / marketable / sellable, gradually losing the idea of photography as an art form for those with a point of view. This coming year, I’ll be focussing on a stronger push towards authenticity and purity with both commercial and personal work, sharing it all as Studio Periphery. Some interesting stuff already in the works, but for now, here are a couple of snaps from a camera I picked up a few months ago but only just got a chance to put to use in (my opinion) the country with the best natural light, Japan. Happy New Year and a big thank you to all clients, collaborators, friends and family for the continued support. #studioperiphery #blackandwhite #japan #leica #leicam11monochrom #leica35mmsummicron #monochrome #nikko #streetphotography #styleandsubstance #tokyo

An effortless gifting guide, reimagined through the lens of cinema. This year, inspired by Aesop’s Gift Kits, we created a short film exploring the contrasts between @aimes__ and myself — a glimpse into how we prepare gifts for the year-end festivities. Subtle moments and shared stories. @studioperiphery x @pupiloffice for @aesop . #aesop
