Atopos, Topos is a diptych film shot simultaneously in Jericho, Palestine, and Amorgos, Greece, where the two dancers Aseel Qupty and Maria Isidora improvised their movements in response to their respective landscapes. Without being able to see or hear one another, they danced intuitively, guided by presence rather than perception. Their gestures seemed to echo and respond across the distance, raising questions: are they reaching for each other? Do they ever meet? Can movement transcend geography? Through this silent experiment, the film explores the porous threshold between body, landscape, and border. Behind the camera, a similar mirroring appeared between the two filming teams, working independently yet capturing the dancers in uncanny synchronicity. Part of L’anabase, a broader visual and sonic investigation into Mediterranean myths and displacement connecting Greece and Palestine, the film invites us to reflect on how dance might connect us across borders.
