BAD CARE, a site-specific presentation of works across sculpture, installation, and video by Anna Ting Möller @annatingmoller     The title BAD CARE references the Swedish word for bathtub, “badkar.” The word itself stems from the Old English bæð, “an immersing of the body in water, mud, etc.” Curator: Sofia Thiệu D’amico Photo: Carl Gunhouse Transmitter NYC

“War hangs heavy in the air like Vietnam’s tropical humidity, or like the hushed anticipation that gathered over Performance Space New York on February 5 for ‘We Exist in the Ambivalence of Those Motherfuckers,’ the culminating evening of performances by four Vietnam-based artists-in-residence: Đoàn Thanh Toàn, Lại Diệu Hà, Nhi Lê Phương, and Vũ Đức Toàn…. The event—which included lectures, collaborations, and publishing projects—came together after months of research and groundwork by [Brooklyn- and Hanoi-based writer and choreographer] Anh Vo and their co-organizers Lumi Tan and maura nguyễn donohue, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the end of the American War in Vietnam.” In a new column for Artforum, D'Amico reports on Performance Space’s showcase of artists from Hanoi and Saigon. Being in conversation with @sofia.thieu makes my brain light up in countless ways. She wrote this stunner of an essay for The Tongue is the Child of the Heart opening at @ninajohnsongallery this Thursday. “the heart becomes emblematic of a larger cosmology—one defined by continuity, interrelation, and enfolding” If you get a chance, please take the time to read it and get on the mind/body reintegration train with us ~ Link in bio

This is a short video I made during the installation of Tamiko Kawata’s “Togetherness II: Waterfall” as Tamiko and her team were installing her epic sculptural work of thousands of safety pin “lines”, which together create the effect of a waterfall. It is a stunning accomplishment for the 89-year old artist. It is only up at @alisonbradleyprojects in Chelsea for a few more days, so see it if you can! It is both utopian and dystopian in my view, a celebration of the community that came together to make it possible, but also a commentary on contemporary culture, a “gushing waterfall of metal” within a sort of jungle of spirits, ghosts, and illusions. Thanks to @clurator and the Alison Bradley team for making the film possible, and to @tomokohojoo and @rahelkraft for their incredible music and sound piece. Tamiko Kawata: “I’m asking him to make the middle part thicker, like the waterfall gushes out. You know, It’s a big job, a big project, I have to have the satisfaction. My demand-want never finished, it never stops. But I think it’s better if it looks better. Nice. It’s very romantic, exciting, it’s something we don’t get to see in normal vision of course. It creates a totally different feeling. It’s really like a big, cosmic universe. It is very beautiful. I can’t explain, it’s nice, you get to see it. It’s something I, you can’t create, but it is here, we created. Very nice. Happening.” #alisonbradleyprojects #clurator #tamikokawata #tomokohojo #rahelkraft

On Thursday, 1/29, we are hosting artists Megumi Shauna Arai (@oneflewup ), Gi (Ginny) Huo (@gi_huo ), Melissa Joseph (@melissajoseph_art ), and curator Sofia Thiệu D’Amico (@sofia.thieu ) for an evening of presentations and conversations. “Return Flight: Diasporic Artists on Presenting Work in the ‘Motherland,’” will focus on each of the speaker's recent experiences of showcasing work in their ancestral homes. The evening will highlight their projects as well as the experiences of working as both an insider and outsider (or perhaps a third, different thing altogether), and the complexity of this type of “return.” A culminating conversation will be moderated by our Director of Programs, Collections, and Exhibitions, Claire Kim. Please note that RSVPs are mandatory. Be sure to follow the link in our bio to secure your spot!

Here’s my final post reflecting on the whirlwind of a year that just passed. Alongside these research-driven projects, I continued my artistic practice. I produced a reduced four-channel version of my original twenty-five-channel sound installation For An Epidemic Resistance, which was presented as part of the group exhibition The Speaking Place, on view from July 31 to August 31, 2025. Curated by Sofia Thiệu D’Amico (@sofia.thieu ) at GateGate Gallery (@gategate.gallery )in Ho Chi Minh City, the work was shown alongside artists and friends including Ưu Đàm Trần Nguyễn (@uudam_tran_nguyen ), Phạm Ngọc Dương, Hương Ngô (@_bad_spy ) and Danh Võ. I am deeply grateful for the gallery’s immense support in producing this iteration of my work. The installation then traveled to Mơ Art Space (@mo_artspace ) in Hanoi and is now on view at Vin Gallery (@vin_gallery ) in Ho Chi Minh City as part of Dạ Lửa: Womb of Fire, an exhibition bringing together one hundred works by Vietnamese and diasporic Vietnamese women and non-binary artists. Connecting Vietnam’s two largest cities, the exhibition is curated by Đỗ Tường Linh (@dotuonglinh ), with the support of Nguyễn Vũ Thiên An (@av0cuddl3 ) and Carmen Cortizas (@carmenncf ). The project is historic in its ambition. Special thanks to Nga Nguyễn (_ngadorable) and Duon Nguyễn (@duon.nguyen108 ) for their unwavering stamina and dedication in coordinating this project. More exhibitions and projects are in the making for 2026. Keep your eyes peeled!
