Our 2026 Community Days Calendar is HERE!📍🗓️
This year we're back and bigger than ever with a fresh new vibe for our events!
If you’ve joined us before, you might remember these as Mapping Days, but now that we’ve mapped so many places across the UK, it’s time to make the most of it. Think less mapping, more socialising, exploring, and enjoying accessible spaces together 🎉
So what actually happens on a Sociability Community Day? 🤔
– We meet around 1pm at the chosen location. ⏰
– We make sure everyone is set up with the Sociability app on their phone, then it’s time to get social, and dive into some fun activities with the team! 📱
– We’ll have some time to relax, chat, and debrief together before wrapping up at around 4pm - but you’re very welcome to join us for as long as you like! 🍰
Save the dates! 📍🗓️
Fri 24 April – London
Fri 8 May – Sheffield
Fri 5 June – Leeds
Fri 3 July – Manchester
Fri 7 Aug – London
Fri 4 Sept – Newcastle
We can’t wait to see you there! Sign up now using the link in our bio or scan the QR code. If you have any question, don't hesitate to drop us a message!

Disabled people shaped the tech you use every day.
Their needs, their advocacy, their lived experience pushed innovation in directions it never would have gone otherwise.
Captions — created for Deaf and hard of hearing communities. Now half of us can’t watch a reel without them. (Guilty. Train journeys are sacred.) 📱
Audiobooks — made reading accessible for blind and visually impaired people. Now they’ve completely changed how the world consumes books. 🎧
Voice assistants — developed for people with limited mobility. Now you’re using Siri to set a pasta timer with floury hands and zero shame. 🗣️
Disability drives innovation. Accessibility benefits everyone.
That’s not a feel-good tagline, it’s simply how the world is changing and shaping today.
So today, on GAAD, I’m asking you to think about that the next time someone tells you accessibility is a “nice to have.”
Which one of these surprised you most? And what have we missed? Drop it in the comments 👇

From riverside scavenger hunts and discovering accessible places, to brilliant conversations and plenty of laughs along the way, it was everything Community Days are about.
The sun was shining, the vibes were high, and we loved seeing so many new and familiar faces. A perfect reminder of why we do what we do 🫶
And the best part? We’re only just getting started…

6 people. 6 completely different reasons a place becomes inaccessible… 🤔
Accessibility isn’t one size fits all, and what works for one person might not work for someone else.
Here are some things that can make a place inaccessible:
1. Lack of clear accessibility information
2. Obstructions under tables, making it hard for wheelchair users to sit comfortably
3. No step-free access
4. Spaces that are too crowded to navigate
5. Too much background noise or no quiet space
6. No seating or rest areas
It’s not always obvious, but these things can completely change whether someone can access a space or not.
Want to find accessible places that suit your needs?📍

✨Spent the day celebrating accessibility and inclusion with the @sociabilityapp team in Sheffield city centre today. We went round scouting out local venues to check their accessibility and putting up stickers so that other disabled people can quickly get the info they need. It was also great to catch up with some familiar faces as well as meeting loads of lovely new ones too. I’ll do a proper reel about the day next week but now it’s time for me to flop 🥰✨ #slaywithsparkle #sociability #sociabilityapp #accessible #disabled @sociabilityapp
We’re in @bigissueuk this week. 🖤
And this one is a real biggie for us! Not least of all because we love Sir @davidattenborough !
At the heart of Sociability is a question we know too many of you have had to ask before every plan, every journey, every night out:
Can I get in?
Will the lift work? Will I be able to hear anyone? Will I be able to use the bathroom when I get there?
These calculations are exhausting. And they’re invisible to most people.
But they’re not just about information. They’re about perception.
They’re about who spaces expect to come through the door - and who they don’t.
That’s what we’re trying to change. Not just by making accessibility information easier to find, but by shifting the assumption underneath it.
The article goes inside that work, including interviews with our users, and a behind-the-scenes look at the planning and running of our event. The only event of its kind for Disabled people following NAIDEX. Built by the community, for the community.
Because when Disabled people can move through the world with confidence, certainty and independence — the world has to start catching up.
Huge thanks to Big Issue and Big Issue Invest — whose belief in what we’re building has been there from the beginning. Not just the investment, but the people, the doors opened, the conversations that mattered.
This article tells a bit of our story. Link in bio. 🔗

There are a few things people say to me as a Disabled person that are usually meant kindly... but don’t always come across that way 🤷♀️♿️
“You’re so inspiring” 😬
“Well, everything happens for a reason” 🤨
“It must be nice to get extra help” 🙄
Most of the time, these comments come from a good place. But they can sometimes feel uncomfortable or miss the mark.
Being called “inspiring” for just living life can feel like expectations are being lowered, and comments about “extra help” can overlook the barriers that make that support necessary in the first place.
This isn’t about blame, it’s about building awareness. What sounds like a compliment on the surface can feel very different to the person receiving it.

POV: your office actually lives up to the accessibility claims 👀♿
Do you want the Sociability House Tour? 🏠🎶
This space has seen us grow from a team of 3 to 20+… and @thefisheries team has been a big part of how we’ve done it.
@thefisheries is a coworking space in East London that just gets it. The one thing that workplaces still miss:
Accessibility and design aren’t opposites.
You don’t have to sacrifice style to make a space work for everyone.
And when you get it right? People don’t just get in - they thrive once they’re there. We even have an accessible wet room here to spruce up after work ready for Friday night drinks with the team!
We’ve shared a full accessibility breakdown in a previous video if you want the detail 👀
But for now - a question:
What’s one thing every accessible office should actually have (that most don’t)?

Trying to be helpful? This is worth knowing! ♿
Pushing someone’s wheelchair without asking might seem like a kind thing to do, but it can take away someone’s control and independence. It can also feel invasive, and in some cases, it’s not safe due to balance and how wheelchairs are designed.
Everyone feels differently about this, some people might be okay with it, others really aren’t. That’s why the simplest thing to do is just ask first.
“Would you like some help?”
And then respect the answer, whatever it is.
Have you ever had someone try to help without asking? How did it feel? 👇💬

Ever had someone shout something strange at you in the street? 🗣️
We know a lot of the time people are just trying to be funny or don’t mean any harm. But when you hear it over and over again, it can get a little bit tiring.
Comparing wheelchairs to cars might seem like a joke, but it can feel a bit dehumanising too. That being said, everyone feels differently about it, some people laugh it off, others don’t, and both are valid!
If you’ve heard any of these before, give this video a like and follow for more 👀
Which one do you hear the most, or what would you add to the list? How do you usually respond? 💬👇

Video description:
Three wheelchair users are in a bright office space with exposed brick walls and plants. Jennie and Rowan are using manual wheelchairs and Georgina is using a powered wheelchair. They appear together at the start, then take turns wheeling into frame, speaking to camera, and wheeling back out in a light, playful sequence.
