Impromptu trip to the Upper Peninsula ended successfully.
When we learned that we actually visited during the off-season, we recognized this as an opportunity for pivoting and not as a roadblock to good times.
Countless Maps notifications about winter roads, signs indicating closed for the season, and a general sense of changing seasons pushed us to focus on what was working out in our favor- and we're all the more grateful for it!
We ended our trip with a roadside 12-mile trail, a side quest cut short by GUN SHOTS. Still through it all, we happened upon a hidden gem and a love for shaking trees and freeing them from the weight of the snow.
The long drive back home provided plenty of time to reflect on how magical this trip is and left me yearning to return back to the trees.

Icy roads and low visibility did not stop our adventuring! 🥶
The trip was originally supposed to be a way to experience a Michigan fall; instead we were introduced to Michigan winters early with the first snowfall of the year 😅
We ambitiously wanted to complete the full Chapel loop, and decided on conquering the Mosquito Falls loop instead. 🙂↕️
Six miles, countless photo ops over frigid water later and Smokey's endless cries, we finally made it back to the trailhead just before the sightless night set in.

Started in 2016, this event allows visitors to respectfully enjoy Halloween themed movies among the gravestones.
50 years after its initial '74 release, the OG Texas Chainsaw Massacre is still as unsettling and graphic as ever.

Day Trip to the Thumb!
We passed through miles of manured-filled farmland for these views.
Started off our day with a hike through Sand Point Nature Preserve, a well marked and maintain stroll through nature on a road turnout.
Less than 5 miles down the road awaited our ultimate destination, @michigandnr Sleeper State Park. Located on Huron Lake, this park featured hiking trails and an extended lakeshore with a pet-friendly area.
The Huron marks Smokey's 2nd of the 5 @puremichigan Great Lakes. He absolutely did not want to get out of the water, chasing @___azucenaa and I all over the water.

Perfect weather for a 7 mile stroll along the @cityofdetroit@detroitriverfront We started at @michigancentraldetroit , making our way along the Southwest Greenway.
We passed the unfinished Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Park, the Concrete Pyramid, many docked boats, and of course, @hartplaza
After 3.5+ miles, we made it to the rocky shores of the @michigandnr William G. Milliken State Park before deciding to turn back. On our return, we were treated to a beautiful evening sky with the sun blazing red as it set.
I can always expect a special weekend when I reunite with some of the best and brightest @shanetakecharge Battier Take Charge Foundation alumni.
Our time was filled with collaboration to explore how we can leave a mark on our communities and impact the world.

We were able to hit 2 trails today, starting off with the Stone Bridge Trail and wrapped back with the Prairie and Butterfly Garden Trail! 🌲🦋
