Her vocal agility and unique multi-genre compositions with her ensembles Mortal Lease and Signe have enchanted publics and reviews around Northern Europe. She draws inspiration from idling in parks and cafĂ©s, savoring the sounds of nature and different languages. / JUKKA KÄÄRIÄINEN @jukka_kaarijainen is a musician focused on experimental music, working with prepared acoustic guitar or electric guitar and effects. He has performed widely across Europe and at international festivals in the UK, Spain, and France. / WILSON TANNER SMITH is a cellist, composer, improviser, and theatre artist currently based in Helsinki. His musical sensibility is informed by free improvisation/free jazz, ambient, DIY and found sounds, and by many cross-cultural/-genre collaborations in his former hometown, Chicago, and more recently across northern/western Europe. (English below) Förra Ă„ret gjorde vi, tillsammans med Konstmusiksystrar (SE) och NyMusikk (NO), en utlysning för nordiska och baltiska konstnĂ€rer verksamma inom ljud och musik, inom ramen för projektet “every Where and any place”. I juni kommer de utvalda konstnĂ€rerna — Alsa Ojala (FI), Wilson Tanner Smith (FI/US) och Hildur ElĂ­sa JĂłnsdĂłttir (NL/IS) — till oss för ett tio dagar lĂ„ngt residens. De medverkar Ă€ven i vĂ„rt publika program inom den lokala konstrundan Kulturglimtar den 27 juni. Under vĂ„ren publicerar vi presentationer av de medverkande konstnĂ€rerna, liksom mer information om programmet och vĂ„r medverkan i Kulturglimtar, som Ă€ger rum 27–28 juni. Initiativet till “every Where and any place” kommer frĂ„n NyMusikk och Konstmusiksystrar och genomförs i samarbete med StĂ€llbergs gruva. Projektet stöds av Nordisk Kulturfond - @nordiskkulturfond / Last year, together with Konstmusiksystrar (SE) and NyMusikk (NO), we issued an open call for Nordic and Baltic artists working with sound and music, as part of the project “every Where and any place.” In June, the selected artists — Alsa Ojala (FI), Wilson Tanner Smith (FI/US), and Hildur ElĂ­sa JĂłnsdĂłttir (NL/IS) — will join us for a ten-day residency, living and working on site. They will also take part in our public programme as part of the local art trail Kulturglimtar on 27 June. Throughout the spring, we will share presentations of the participating artists, along with further details about the programme and our involvement in Kulturglimtar, which takes place 27–28 June. The initiative “every Where and any place” is led by NyMusikk (Norway) and Konstmusiksystrar (Sweden), in collaboration with StĂ€llbergs gruva. If the Law of Averages lies in the usual and predictable, the Law of Exceptions is what happens when three musicians from broad musical/cultural backgrounds get together for an evening of improvised music in Helsinki. A first-time trio meeting of Appeal (NP, sarod/voice), Hadi Hrekes (SYR, percussion), and Wilson Tanner Smith (FI/US, cello/flutes) is sure to cross all kinds of exceptional musical territories over the course of two sets at Kallio's Musta Kissa. Improvised music in exceptional times-- 14.4.26 - 19:00 €10 suggested donation BIOs: Appeal is a vocalist, sarodiya, and multi-instrumentalist rooted in Nepali folk, rāga traditions, and pedagogical practices. Drawing on extended techniques; he weaves improvisation, songwriting, and non-dual philosophy into a fluid musical expression. /appeal.music Hadi Hrekes is a skilled percussionist and a student at the Sibelius Academy’s Global Music Department in Helsinki, Finland. With a solid foundation in darbuka and ethno-oriental percussion, he has gained recognition for his rhythmic talent, solo improvisations, and collaborative nature. Hadi’s musical journey includes various records and collaborations, as well as participation in numerous festivals and ensembles in Syria, Lebanon, the Arab region, the Balkans, and Finland. He has lent his talents to renowned Syrian drama series and has composed cinematic rhythms.
