SolidNature Innovative Craftsmanship
This is the first time SolidNature has embarked on a project focusing on producing smaller-scale art objects. By collaborating with partners like Secrets of the Universe, renowned for their experimental architecture, objects, and installations, the natural stone brand aims to bring beauty and brilliance to light.
As an innovation partner, SolidNature works with the best creative minds in the world, including the nine designers and artists featured in 'Souvenirs of a Forgotten Past! This project underlines the brand's interest in expanding innovative craftsmanship and engaging with creatives to share important messages while showcasing a wide range of manufacturing skills.
Smith-Clementi (Frank Clementi and Julie Smith-Clementi) explore the composite nature of American identity through a reflective, dual-themed piece inspired by Venice, named "E la Nave Va".
THE INSTALLATION WILL BE ON DISPLAY AT LUMINAIRE'S CHICAGO HOWROOM UNTIL AUGUST 10TH. AFTER THAT IT WILL TRAVEL ACROSS HE UNITED STATES, STOPPING AT KEY LUMINAIRE SHOWROOMS IN AN FRANCISCO AND LOS ANGELES.

E la Nave Va
Nave means boat in Italian. Our setting is the city, the boat and the water. These multiple parts speak to our American condition of composite people. We are made of where we came from, we complete where we end up and are informed by the journey. More specifically we are composite individuals. The concept came from a sketch that Frank made in Venice. Where the nature of the reflection of the city creates an imperfect duality in its lagoon. The sign in the sketch says the same thing above and below, but where is below? It inverted and distorted. What other alternative natures exist in the below? This is the behavior in the upside down looking glass we pretend to live in. One that we are creatively miming as immigrants.

SolidNature proudly announces ‘Souvenirs of a Forgotten Past’, a collaborative exhibition with Secrets of the Universe, on show at Luminaire Chicago.
The concept for ‘Souvenirs of a Forgotten Past’ emerged from an exploration of cultural identity and the use of natural stone in design. As the selected designers delved into their diverse cultural backgrounds, the project evolved into a reflection on diaspora and the migration of cultures into new worlds.
This exhibition can be viewed starting today, the beginning of NeoCon 2024, the world’s leading platform and event for the commercial design industry, and will run until August 10th.

3/3 Working with the team remotely and completely digitally was the challenge. The final design is rendered in enscape. The result is incredibly accurate as seen in the overlay of the point cloud, the sketchup model and the photo we took on site.
