Flocked Paradiso Lace Panel
A new collaboration between MYB Textiles, Annika from @maison_du_flock and Sara + Sarah @smarttextiledesign from Smart Textile Design.
Our Paradiso Lace Panel reimagines a classic Nottingham lace design with hand-printed flocked bird motifs. This bespoke lace panel combines heritage craftsmanship with contemporary innovation.
The flock is produced from clippings created during our Scottish Madras weaving process, transforming textile waste into a refined decorative feature. This creates a subtle, tactile surface that enhances the detail and depth of the Paradiso design.
Available in grey as shown, with bespoke colour options on request. Suitable for interior applications where craftsmanship and material innovation are key.
Shown in dark grey, with bespoke colour options available. Please contact us for more information on this latest innovation.

What a weekend!
We spent it at @dovecotstudios - here we are Sara & Sarah @smarttextiledesign and Annika @maison_du_flock running a cotton flocking workshop. The flock fibre is made entirely from waste cotton clips, and participants got to work with handmade paper from @paper.foundation — created using the same cotton waste from @mybtextiles1900 Madras manufacture.
From screen-printing imagery inspired by MYB’s lace archive, to designing stencils and hand-painting, everyone left with a unique flocked artwork — all made from lace cotton waste!

I’m behind again! The theme is transparency - there are so many things that come to mind for this .. but I had to share a glad back to our work with @janejaneydesigns and Alexander Whiteley Dance Company and @mybtextiles1900 ! Here we were testing how light emitting lace could be opaque and transparent with the play of light within a theatre and performance environment. We were able to conceal and reveal a dancer through the light within and on cloth. #lightemittinglace #opticalfibre #transparency #dance #immersive #stlday13

Day 4 – #STL25Day4
Warped. #SeptTextileLove25
This takes me back to 2014–2016, when Sarah and I first worked together on Digital Lace. It all began with a small grant from Plymouth College of Art in 2014.
We wanted to bring together Sarah’s work with optical fibre, light, and weave, with my research into liquid crystal thermochromics and printed textiles. After a visit to the National Museums of Scotland’s lace archive, we set out to create digital lace samplers—works that could be programmed, that changed over time, yet held on to their unfinished and timeless qualities.
Using a weave process, we created warps to align optical fibres at precise widths, then bonded them to screen printed linen. With support from DJCAD @djcad_uod and @hwu.sotd Heriot Watt University School of Textiles and Design we developed samplers lit with bespoke LEDs and knitted heated circuits, enabling programmed shifts in light and colour.
The word warped takes me back to many hours spent making and perfecting the warps and the bonding process!
Day 3 – #STL25Day3
#SeptTextileLove25
Today’s theme is Yellow, which makes me think of light. A perfect way to introduce Sarah Taylor, the other half of Sara + Sarah. In the 90s, Sarah pioneered the integration of polymer optical fibre technology in woven cloth.
Together, we’re inspired by light and shadow play—light as colour, and the transformation of space through illuminated textiles. Light in cloth opens up possibilities to explore time, performance, and dynamic control of colour.
Yellow feels like a joyful colour, full of warmth and summer energy. The images here share glimpses of our latest experiments as collaborators on an @immersivearts_uk Funded Project, working with @fashion_led_research and @corpoveillance to translate algal data into immersive and haptic textile experiences.
Day 1 – #STL25Day1 #SeptTextileLove25 @seam_collective
A little late, but here we go! I’m Sara – a textile design researcher (or at least that’s the best way to describe what I do).
I co-run a small research-led studio, Sara + Sarah @smarttextiledesign with my friend Sarah Taylor. Together we explore the space between creative practice and industry, from leading research projects to collaborating with fashion and textile companies.
I don’t make “beautiful” textiles very often these days, but I love finding ways to bring materials and processes together so they can spark new systems, tell stories, or inspire others to create textiles.
At the moment, we’re working on FLOCC @flocc__ with the brilliant Annika @maison_du_flock in the Netherlands and @mybtextiles1900 in Scotland - transforming MYB’s cotton clips (a byproduct of madras lace production) as electrostatic flock fibres for textiles and surface design.
Day 2 – #STL25Day2
We’re excited to show the FLOCC project at Dutch Design Week 2025 in Eindhoven! It’s shaping up to be a beautiful celebration of creativity, collaboration and new ideas.
We’re excited to share that we have received Creative Scotland Crowdmatch funding… which means all donations for our crowdfunder are matched. We still need your support to share the project! And if you’d like a reward from a lace badge to a bag of cotton flock fibre please follow the link in our bio! @crowdfunderuk@creativescots #worthpartnershipproject #lace #milandesignweek #flockprint #scottishtextiles #creativescotland #crowdfunderuk #sustainabletextiles
