One guitar. Sixty-plus pieces of Canadian history. Five extraordinary voices. On Friday, May 29 at Small World Centre, we're hosting something truly special: Six String Nation: Sounds Like Canada ✨ Voyageur isn't just a guitar — it's built from materials gathered across every province and territory, each piece carrying a story of who we are. Created by Peabody Award-winning storyteller Jowi Taylor (@six_string_nation ), it's now celebrating 20 years since its national debut on Parliament Hill. This evening, five incredible artists from the Small World Music Incubator bring Voyageur to life through their own genres, cultures, and lived experiences: @eunicekeitan — Malaysian-Canadian Neo-Soul fused with ancestral Asian soundscapes @jelopezmusic — Filipino-Canadian blues, soul & R&B storytelling @jercabr — Toronto-based artist blending Bahia rhythms with contemporary textures @karlagarciamusic — Chilean-Canadian classical guitar meets Latin American tradition @tarek.ghriri.guitarist — Palestinian/Syrian-Canadian flamenco & Arabic fusion Plus: a portrait session where YOU can join the gallery of 150,000+ portraits holding Voyageur 📸 Complimentary beverages & curated hors d'oeuvres throughout the night. 📍 Small World Centre, 180 Shaw St 🕢 Doors 7:30 PM | Show 8:00 PM 🎟️ Link in bio | Ages 19+ Presented by Small World Music and Six String Nation #SixStringNation #Voyageur #SmallWorldMusic #TorontoMusic #CanadianMusic #LiveMusicToronto #soundslikecanada The 2026 Small World Music Series is sponsored by@td_canada through the TD Ready Commitment and funded by the Government of Canada, @canada.council ,@ontarioartscouncil , and the @cityofto through the @torontoartscouncil

A rich and extraordinary musical journey through the ancient Andes — @constantinoplemusic and master Peruvian musicians explore the Martínez Compañón and Zuola codices. Join us for a vibrant evening of discovery as the ensemble Constantinople, directed by @kiya_tabassian , together with its distinguished guests from Peru, delves into the rich musical memory of this land. 🗓️Thu, May 21, 2026 from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM 📍Trinity-St. Paul’s United Church (427 Bloor Street West, Toronto) The music of the Andes and South America is the heir to pre-Hispanic musical traditions, enriched by the instruments and repertoires brought by the peoples who later settled in this “New World.” This encounter between profoundly different cultures gave rise to remarkable musical works, rediscovered today in 17th- and 18th-century codices such as those of Martínez Compañón and Zuola. Yet this memory does not live only in manuscripts; it continues through oral and popular traditions, passed down from generation to generation, whose rhythms and melodies still resonate across South America. A true bridge between worlds, this music weaves a magnificent tapestry of sound where history, identity, and living imagination converge. Soumen Nandy, a young tabla maestro from West Bengal, performing alongside Imdadkhani sitar master Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee at Ishq Festival by Small World Music in Toronto. Trained under Pandit Pankaj Chatterjee of the Farukhabad gharana, Soumen’s playing carries both energy and sensitivity, making him one of the most exciting young tabla artists from Kolkata’s classical music scene today. This moment from Raag Hameer beautifully captures the musical conversation between tabla and sitar. #SoumenNandy #PanditBudhadityaMukherjee #Tabla #RaagHameer #IndianClassicalMusic HindustaniClassical LiveMusic TorontoMusic SmallWorldMusic IshqFestival ClassicalMusic MusicReels TorontoEvents

What a night. ✨ @chaurasia_rakesh and @amitkavthekar opened the evening with Raag Bhimpalasi and Hansdhwani, weaving in touches of retro melody that lit the room up. Then @atishmukhopadhyay and @anindotabla took us into Raag Jaijaiwanti — a raga built for the late hours, and every second of it felt earned. Thank you to all who were with us, our co-presenter @agakhanmuseum , partners @raagmalatoronto and @_thirdspacemusic Photography : @nikhileshbadhwar The 2026 Small World Music Series is sponsored by @td_canada through the TD Ready Commitment and funded by the Government of Canada, @canada.council , @ontarioartscouncil , and the @cityofto through the @torontoartscouncil

Over the years, amazing artists and organizations have approached us to collaborate in different ways. This time, a very special collaboration took place between Across Oceans and Small World Music. For years, Maxine Heppner had been in conversation with our founder, Alan Davis, about creating something where dance and music could truly intersect. It lived as an idea for a long time, but this year, we were finally able to bring it to life! ✨ 💃🏽🪘 We brought together musicians from our Incubator program and dancers from Across Oceans Arts' community. Through a two-month residency, we offered studio space for them to explore and play through improvisation, dialogue, and experimentation. 🔬 The only goal was to experiment and see what happens when dance and music meet. We closed with a final showing of their works-in-progress and shared a really lovely evening together! You could also be part of experiences like this... apply to our Incubator program today! Apply, apply, apply! Ok? Deadline May 3rd This project was made possible thanks to the support of Dance Makers. Photos by: Henry Chan @henry.chan.photo
