SKYMAGIC: Drone Light Shows

This evening, some of Hockney’s finest and most famous artworks were recreated in the skies over the iconic Salts Mill and Roberts Park by more than 600 choreographed light drones.

Look back at the INAURA show ✨ ⁠ ⁠ INAURA is a new hospitality concept by @aradaliving , at the forefront of lifestyle led living. It brings together design, fitness, and ritual in spaces that radiate energy and cultivate belonging.⁠ ⁠ Guided by this vision and INAURA’s distinctive brand palette, SKYMAGIC, in collaboration with Identity, created an aerial performance to mark the launch. Drawing directly from the building’s architecture, the show featured surreal stair formations and geometric elements assembling mid air, echoing the structure’s layered walls and form.⁠ ⁠ At the centre of the building sat a pearlescent orb, an element that inspired fluid, nature led scenes of drifting water droplets, linking the intimate with the monumental.⁠ ⁠ The result was a richly colour saturated spectacle at Meydan Racecourse, brought to life by an 800 strong fleet and unveiled as part of INAURA’s landmark launch event.⁠ ⁠ Huge thanks to @identity.experience and @weareenergie ! ⁠ #Drones #DroneShow #DroneArtists #LiveEvents #INAURA

As the @edenprojectcornwall marks 25 years of connecting people with nature, we’ve been looking back at some of our favourite projects inspired by the environment.⁠ ⁠ This project for the King’s Coronation Concert was set above the iconic Eden Project. It was a celebration rooted in creativity, connection, and the natural world. For this special moment, we split a fleet of 1,000 drones across three locations, synchronising them to tell one unified story across the UK.⁠ ⁠ Inspired by the beauty and complexity of nature, our drones formed organic, evolving shapes in the sky—echoing growth, transformation, and renewal. These are themes that feel especially fitting as spring begins to emerge.⁠ ⁠ Designing a show across multiple locations simultaneously is no small feat. From original music composition and choreography to custom screen content, costume design and a coordinated drone display, every element was crafted to build a cinematic reveal for guests. In collaboration with @bradford_2025 and @davidhockneyandmore , we set out to challenge how drone technology can be experienced — and to rethink the idea of painting itself. Not with oils or pixels — but with light.⁠ ⁠ David Hockney has continually redefined artistic mediums throughout his career, from experimenting with Xerox photocopiers to creating digital works on his iPad. Inspired by this spirit of innovation, we set ourselves a bold challenge: to create a world-first homage to Hockney's work using drones to “paint” one of his most iconic works in using long exposure photography.⁠ ⁠ The choice of Garrowby Hill felt natural. One of Hockney’s most celebrated landscapes, its sweeping lines and vivid depiction of Yorkshire lent themselves perfectly to the fluidity of long-exposure capture. Flying above Salts Mill — an iconic cultural landmark closely associated with Hockney — made the tribute even more meaningful.⁠ ⁠ Technically, the project demanded extensive in-house R&D. Our artist-led creative team had to reimagine our drones not as individual points of light, but as an invisible paintbrush. To the naked eye, the sky revealed only hundreds of moving LEDs. But through the lens of a long-exposure camera, those precise choreographic movements combined into a complete image — the artwork emerging line by line in light.⁠ ⁠ To capture the moment, we collaborated with freelance photographer William Turner, who embraced the challenge of scaling from single-drone captures to photographing 600 drones moving in perfect synchronisation.⁠ ⁠ Perched with the pigeons atop the historic Victoria Hall, photographer William, our Head of Creative Studio Sammy Gooch, and Animator Sophie Vickers held their breath, waiting to see if our experiment would work. What’s better than one New Year’s Eve show from SKYMAGIC? We didn’t enter 2026 quietly…⁠ ⁠ On New Year’s Eve, we lit up Ras Al Khaimah with one of our most ambitious shows yet. 2,300 LED drones, 2,000 pyrotechnic effects and 40 laser drones ignited Al Marjan Island.⁠ ⁠ The centrepiece: a blazing 411-metre (wingtip to wingtip) Phoenix sweeping across 3km of the bay, earning @visitrasalkhaimah a Guinness World Record 🥇 for the largest aerial display of a mythical creature by multirotor drones.⁠ ⁠ The story continued as a towering guardian welcomed 2026.
