The moment I set foot on Ethiopian soil, it was vivid to me that these were people who have deeply embraced and were proud of their culture. Their love for their heritage was visible in everything!! from the way they prepared their coffee to the music they enjoyed, and even in how they addressed one another. The atmosphere was embedded in culture and tradition, painting a vivid picture of authenticity and originality. This is a lesson I believe many African countries can take to heart. In the rush to adapt to post-colonial influences, we have often let go of our unique ways of life, trading them for borrowed identities. In doing so, we risk losing the originality and authenticity that define us. "How can we truly understand ourselves, let alone thrive, when we stray so far from our roots?" ~Lisan Al-Ghaib~

My second piece is a tribute to @cfcafrica and @sweinethiopia for organizing and facilitating this incredible program. As it's just the beginning of their journey, I’m excited to see the impact this initiative will have on the art sector in the years to come. A heartfelt thank you to both organizations for their dedication and efforts.

Hadithi Hadithi in collaboration with @skecha___ at @nafasiartspace This series is an exploration of the story of the birth of the nation through the eyes of Dickson Kirenga also known as Skecha, a digital artist and Nicole Kombe, also known as IllustrationsbyNikki, a digital and traditional artist. This series follows the artist’s recollections of the events that occurred in history, retelling the story of the birth of Tanzania through our interpretation in the digital medium. The exhibition follows the African tradition of oral storytelling of events to remember our shared history, to teach, entertain, and preserve the values of their communities but with a twist. Elders usually serve as the custodians of history and culture, however through Nicole and Dickson’s work, the artworks offer the youth perspective of the distinct moments and experiences that shaped Tanzania and Tanzanian culture through visual art. #africanart #digitalart #tanzania

Welcome to the Shapes and Stuff Workshop, facilitated by @skecha___ , a digital illustrator who will guide in understanding how shapes influence storytelling, emotion, and composition in visual art. Through this hands on session, participants will explore how to effectively use shape language to communicate ideas and emotions in their creative work.
