Walk the Flock out!
Enough is enough. Cal Poly admin has dismissed our concerns about mass surveillance, immigration, and relentless growth, and it’s time for us to show them we will be heard.
We have Flock cameras on all entrances and exits on campus, which monitor our movement without adequate data protections to keep us safe. According to the contract Cal Poly PD has with Flock safety, the data can be accessed by federal agencies through backdoor means. When students brought our concerns that ICE could potentially access the data and harm our immigrant population, they were referred to as “student sensitivities,” too frivolous for admin, who allegedly serves us, to take seriously. In fact, Cal Poly violated CA civil code 1798.90.55, which states that there must be a town hall before installing ALPR technology. There are no meaningful university policies protecting minority students from ICE. Students should not live in fear of stalking and state-sanctioned kidnapping.
Additionally, we stand in solidarity with CAFES ambassadors in their opposition to Jeffrey Armstrong’s plan to tear down the lemon grove on Highland and develop West campus into a hotel, conference center, and more. The lemon grove is a valuable classroom for CAFES students where they “learn by doing,” but their concerns are also secondary in the administration's eyes. Despite the fact that ASI passed a resolution opposing the development in 2025, Armstrong is relentless in pursuing this development which has bipartisan opposition to it.
Meanwhile, our tuition money is being invested into corporate trusts that go directly to weapons manufacturers. Cal Poly education is enabling genocide in the Middle East right now. Enough is enough.
Jeffrey Armstrong makes over $600k a year, with a 100k increase over the last year, nine times the base salary for faculty. And what does he even do? Cater to investors and disregard student concerns. Join us in protesting this injustice, and prove to the administration that we will not be silenced.
