This roundtable discussion of the @sixmissing podcast was both delightful and thought-provoking. First, we discussed the idea of an addictive personality and how we can convert such impulses into ‘useful addictions’. We also agreed how ‘comforting’ TJ Dumser is as a person as reflected by his insights, vocal tone and general demeanour. We explored the idea of ‘state dependent cognition’, which led to a discussion of the shift in psychology to include somatic or body-based therapies. A quite profound discussion followed about accepting our relative insignificance and how this takes a self-imposed weight off our shoulders. We agreed that a new insight was that ambient music doesn’t so much dictate what emotions we are to feel, but allows us to mindfully uncover what’s there and finally, we explored how TJ’s music is a type of mindfulness practice.

Artwork by @matthewjsage Photography by @ny_lonestar ———— Colorado-based artist Weareforests and Texas-based artist Six Missing have properly connected on their latest joint release: a mesmerizing ambient collaboration known as Pigment of the Forms. Despite being their first time working together, this eight song release feels like a true bond has been formed. Properly described in Weareforests’ own bio as “a blip, a hush, a mighty small inkling,” this project leans fully into that ethos: small, intentional, and deeply present sounds made to craft a tranquil and immersive listening experience. One that feels less like a collection of songs and more like a shared environment. Built from nature recordings, modular synths, and gently drifting guitars, the album unfolds like a slow walk through the woods. Rainfall and river sounds ripple through the tracks, creating the sensation of stumbling upon a creek, laying down a blanket, and letting the world fade into a half-dazed dream. There’s an uncanny balance at play: organic textures meet subtle electronic movement. Like a space station making contact with a national park. Like an extraterrestrial befriending a field. The result is calm, but never stagnant. Alive and vibrant in its quiet stillness.
