𝑺𝒐𝒄𝒌 & 𝑺𝒂𝒄𝒌 A Walk with mihyun maria kim @singmariamaria 🗓️Saturday 9. May, 2026 🕛15:00-16:00 📍Outside entrance of KARLA @hausderstatistik , Karl-Marx-Allee 1, Berlin 🗣️English 🔗 Sign up to join via link in ReRouting’s bio. Reflecting on Korean tradition, this walk asks how do we carry the blessings of those before us, and the anticipation of warm greetings, through the fabric of a city on our daily walks? How do we move to take notice of the textures within a space and those around us?  Through six fragments of an hour, we will walk around a section of Haus der Statistik responding to prompts with gestures towards our own bodies, the space we take up, and the in/visible people around us. Read more about the walk and artist on our website. * This walk is organised as part of @hausderstatistik Ko-Markt, with @comakingmatters where mihyun maria kim has been resident since the start of 2026.

"the gestures of fragments" contemplates subtle movement and the accumulation of events that cause breakage, fractures, splitting, division, gathering, and safe keeping through material layers embedded with historic meaning for the individual and collective, and their relation to the untranslatable Korean affect, han. As a soft entry to introduce a yearlong project, while in response to the current temporal site of the Karla studio, things unfold as evidence of the materials my body could carry, thoughts unresolved, and methods quietly approaching a new place of conversation. Let things unpack, unfold, and accumulate with time . . . @comakingmatters @sellerie_weekend 2026 first iteration (site responsive - interior & exterior views) dis/placed raffia from Madagascar processed in India bought in Toronto carried by artist to Berlin hand braided on site around metal wire frosted in blue, collaged inkjet print of archived artist activation from 2023 with hanji (Korean mulberry paper) shipped from Seoul with Japanese Mingei Washi purchased at The Japanese Paper Place in Toronto, scrap wood cut in Korean traditional wave patterns reflecting the waning/waxing moon

"the gestures of fragments" (2026) contemplates subtle movement and the accumulation of events that cause breakage, fractures, splitting, division, gathering, and safe keeping through material layers embedded with historic meaning for the individual and collective, and their relation to the untranslatable Korean affect, han. Han is an untranslatable Korean affect word associated with unresolved grief, separated families and loss of collective identity, resulting in an accumulation of intergenerational trauma, which in the North American context has been sustained by suspended assimilation and dislocation/migration. Methods of exhausting the body, poetry, sound, movement, and installation of inherited and created objects are being applied in thinking through making of han. During the yearlong residency December 2025-2026 at co-making matters, these creative outputs will unfold for the public at different stages of making. In the first iterations for Sellerie Weekend 1-3 MAY 2026, explorations have been distilled into the body of works displayed. @sellerie_weekend Thanks to the continued working relation and dear friendship of Viviane Tabach, Founder and Director of Co-Making Matters, Berlin. @comakingmatters @vivianetabach This yearlong project has been generously funded by the Canada Council of Arts. I am so grateful for the support and opportunity to realize many aspects of ongoing research conducted between Toronto, Frankfurt and Berlin. @canada.council

(installation detail) "rambling babblings 횡설수설 baraguiné bredouille" 2025 @fonderiedarling woods- Bloodwood, Purpleheart, Sipo- with dis/placed raffia from the "global south", hanji (Korean mulberry paper), cast interpretation of Korean moonjars in 100% Canadian beeswax, metal bells from China, charcoal, metal wire from North America, hand stitched organza and silk, with ceramic bodies cast with shapes found during residency @la_napoule_artfoundation France in 2022, various sizes in relation to each other and to the space The complexities of describing and explaining un/translatable affects entangled with unresolved historic grief, caused by accumulations of events, are formed with materials and languages that cause power-takeovers and mis/understandings. Taking from Walter Benjamin (1923), Don Mee Choi expands to say "translation is a mode=translation is an anti-neocolonial mode" (2020). When English becomes a problematic translating tool, how can dis/placed materials, different perspectives, and multi-vocal approaches create space for language to be seen and heard? Project was realized with the immense support of: Wood Technicians @kristi_xy and John Diessel Ceramic artist @philippecaronlefebvre In House Technicians @karasite and @xflegrand Curator and support @renaud.renard and Naveed Nejad and generously funded by @canada.council
