Apolune — Returning to home base, join us on Thursday 21 May for an evening of contemporary art, drinks, conversation and the chance to celebrate the warmer days together. Apolune — the point in an orbit farthest from the moon becomes both title and provocation for this group exhibition by members of General Practice. Rooted in ideas of distance, trajectory and return, the exhibition offers a poetic starting point for reflection, experimentation and reorientation. Following our recent exhibition in London with MEZZANINE @mezzanine_studios , General Practice now brings the show home to Lincoln for a special presentation at our studio space. The exhibition brings together a range of contemporary and experimental practices including animation, projection, painting, sculpture and mixed media. Featuring work by Lauren Winter, Nicholas Simpson, Nathan Baxter, Madara Vimba, Andrew Bracey, Rob Britt, Joana Cifre Cerdà and Oliver Ventress, the exhibition reflects a year of shared experimentation, dialogue and exchange within the group. Walkabout to kick off the Advanced Studio Project with the @uolartsfoundationyear students today — always one of my favourite times of the year 😁 A three-mile walk to think, sketch, talk, and take in the viewpoints. Big thanks to @david_carruthers_ for showing us around his exhibition and sharing insights into his work 🙌

This work emerged from my ongoing visits to the same site a small stream I’ve been returning to for over three years. During this time, I’ve collected thousands of videos and images, using repetition as a way to observe change. Each visit becomes an opportunity to encounter something new: a shift in light, movement, or atmosphere that alters the familiar. I’m particularly drawn to the way water interacts with light how it fractures, reflects, and transforms it into something almost painterly. This projection wall sculpture brings together fragments of that archive, highlighting moments where the stream becomes an abstract surface for light to perform. What interested me most in this installation was how the screen absorbed and translated these moving images into something closer to a series of light paintings ephemeral, unstable, and constantly shifting. It feels like a continuation of my interest in reanimating collected material, allowing it to behave differently within a new spatial and sculptural context. This work was developed as part of Apolune, a group exhibition that took its name from the point in an orbit farthest from the moon. The exhibition explored ideas of distance, trajectory, and return, bringing together practices across animation, projection, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Within this context, my work considers the act of returning—not as repetition, but as a method for seeing differently over time. I’m looking forward to developing this further, continuing to test how these collected observations can be transformed through projection, material, and space.

Had an absolute blast in London this weekend with the @generalpractice crew. Feeling very lucky to have such a brilliant studio family. Our exhibition Apolune at @mezzanine_studios was a real highlight. A big thank you to @anandywilliams for hosting us and for the hospitality. Apolune, the point in an orbit farthest from the moon, became the starting point for the exhibition. It explored ideas of distance, trajectory and return, bringing together a range of practices including animation, projection, painting, sculpture and mixed media. It was great seeing the old gang @karolinkadworska @andiacoralandiacoral doing so well. I even managed to grab a photo with my piece, although it does not photograph too well as it is a video, but I am really happy with how it turned out. It was also great stomping around London visiting galleries, eating good food and catching up along the way. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the show.

Out walking by the Manor Park stream today. The spring sun was incredible, casting shifting patterns across the water. I spent some time filming the abstract play of light refractions, reflections, and the constant movement of the stream. The light seemed to dance across the surface, changing moment by moment. These observations are part of a series I’ve been developing and will be preparing for a show at @mezzanine_studios this Thursday with @generalpractice , where the work will be shown in a more fully formed way. Hope to see some of you there. It’s a reminder of how much there is to see when you slow down and spend time with a place.

Light experiments — exploring the meeting of light, water, 🍺 and lenses. Using a mix of macro lenses, a beer glass, a stream, and spring sunlight, I’ve been watching how light bends, scatters, and fragments through liquid and glass. Small shifts in angle create entirely new worlds: ripples become landscapes, bubbles turn into tiny lenses, and sunlight refracts into fleeting patterns.

Out today, and you can really feel that spring is on its way. The light is incredible. You can see how it shifts the water, sunlight hitting the surface and then penetrating it, creating such interesting forms. It feels as though the light dances across the surface, revealing the small alien worlds beneath. No matter how many times I return to this place, there is always something different. A brilliant walk with the dog and, as always, a chance to collect from the site. I have been doing this for about three years now and have built up quite a body of work. These are my latest stills and videos.
