I feel strongly about this one. I hate talking to camera, and showing my face in general is super uncomfortable but we know that the dreaded algorithm loves a face more than anything else. Plus - very important - if you run a small business it makes sense that people want to see you, hear from you, it’s a lot quicker to build trust and get to know you via video.
Here are other ways to incorporate video & personality into your content without showing your face:
🪄If you have a product, create fun videos like
@johayesward here
🪄Animate your artwork, and bring your key messages to life, like
@cristianzuzunaga here
🪄Sharing what you’re seeing or doing, like this little clip of
@mimisoan1 @loumt @als.london at the
@simple__shape Micro market recently
🪄Voiceover over visuals, like the David Hockney exhibition
Other ways to incorporate video without showing your face:
🪄Paste a collection of still photos into a reel
🪄Behind the scenes footage
🪄Screen sharing
Hope that’s given you food for thought, and some reassurance that there are many many ways to do things! Having said that, do be brave & show us your face and let us in, from time to time. It’s for work, so it’s worth doing.
What do you think?? Would love to hear your thoughts & any more ideas on this! x
