Breather — performed by the wonderful Patsy Reid and Kristan Harvey This piece is inspired by the Companion Stones along the West Highland Way — carved waymarkers that invite travellers to pause and reflect. It imagines two friends meeting at one of these stones and spontaneously sharing a ceilidh, echoing a story I once heard of two musician friends who encountered each other walking through the Himalayas and stopped to play together. I couldn't have wished for two better musicians to bring this to life. Woohoo, I am Disposed to Mirth! It’s album release day, which (you’d think I planned) coincides with @bandcamp Friday! Thanks so much to all those who have preordered copies of the physical CD - I’m amazed and delighted that this format is still popular among folk. 💫 And it is a beautiful thing, designed by the amazing Somhairle Macdonald @fatherofschmo . It’s the first time I’ve had a booklet made, so please note it’s there, as is easily missed (hi mum 👋), and bursting with interesting musical facts that are unavailable digitally. And the music. @simonthoumire is an unbelievably creative, innovative and unique composer. He’s taken old melodies as a starting point and beautifully led them on a spellbinding journey. I loved getting stuck into this challenging music and am incredibly proud of what we have made together. Simon does so much for everybody else - championing Scotland’s music and musicians, through @handsupfortrad so I think it’s important to recognise that he is also out there making cool stuff! Massive thanks to the amazing musicians who joined me on the album - @seonaid_music , @alice_in_cello_land @dbowdenmusic @kristanharveymusic and @jack.smedley - you’ve added so much 🙏 And I’ve just remembered to release the pre-order on bandcamp (oops - I sooooo need an assistant) so go and find it wherever you get your music (except Spotify, where it isn’t) and I hope you enjoy the tunes 🎻❤️

🎄 Our new Christmas single "Shandy and Mousetta's Waltz" is out now! I wrote this waltz for my friend, inspired by her daughter's sweet gesture of bringing teddy bears Shandy and Mousetta downstairs to keep her mum company when she goes out. It's these small acts of kindness that make Christmas special - making sure nobody feels alone. The brand new Strathspey Queens single with @alice_in_cello_land The Earl of Loudoun’s Strathspey is out today! This commission was written especially for us by the amazing @simonthoumire and we absolutely adore the piece. Excited to let folks know that I’ve made a new album - I am Disposed to Mirth! I originally set out to record the ace @simonthoumire fiddle duet with @jack.smedley and then it just grew arms and legs - in a good way! Caution : recording with @stuart_a_hamilton at @castlesoundstudio is addictive! So, I am Disposed to Mirth, aka The Fiddle Music of Simon Thoumire consists of a fair amount of solo fiddle tracks (incl. viola) but it also features the following amazing musicians - Jack Smedley, @seonaid_music @kristanharveymusic @alice_in_cello_land and @dbowdenmusic 🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻 Design is by the amazing @fatherofschmo and I’ve just launched pre-orders over on @bandcamp which offers a sneak preview of the fiddle duet when you order. The official release date is 5th December 2025 but I’ll have copies avaialble at @scotsfiddlefest after my shows with Alice Allen and Strathspey & Surreal. Very thankful to Simon McKerrell, @fionnllagh and @_bede__ for making such a fine job of performing my new ceòl mòr piping sonatas at Piping Live festival yesterday. I’m looking forward to performing them again sometime!
