It was an absolute blast opening #thesunatnight Spring equinox weekend with
@simonmosimon and
@organ_ised with an improvised modular synth and Church organ Jam as part
@dashthehengestore curated evening
@liveatstgiles .
Live performance and collaboration has been part of the installation since its inception in 2013 (more on that in future post) and the first church installation was at
@lightnightleeds 2015 in St.Annes Cathedral accompanied by the organ and supported by the heavy bass weight from
@mycetias (Operation Soundsystem).
It was this spirit of exploratory sonic endeavour and the physical power of sound that inspired the lineup in St.Giles Church, and I knew that Simon would be the perfect choice to join me on a musical voyage into the heart of the Sun.
I’ve known Simon for a few years now having first met him
@thesynthshed - a modular synth soldering workshop and gathering which he runs
@turfprojects in Croydon - I’ve met some really lovely people there and I think that’s testament to Simon’s generosity of spirit and enthusiasm.
As well as being a facilitator and teacher of music Simon is an accomplished musician, performer and promoter running the excellent
@factorysettinglive in various locations and often performing live either solo or in collaboration with his brother
@djcounselling .
It turned out to be quite the performance (video to follow) in which it was difficult to tell who was doing what when (the mark of a really great collaboration) and I tip my hat to both Simon and Ashley who brought a fearless approach - with practically no rehearsal - that resulted in a captivating piece that set the tone for the rest of the evening. 🙌😎🌞
