Taken two weeks of distraction. Reading two novels. First attempt of collecting samples from cello - ended up sampling cello case instead 😅. Initial steps of preparation for small performance in Stroud
It’s been a cold past few months in Edinburgh since working on One Day : The Musical. First day sitting in the sun in the garden having breakfast where I’m staying. Two weeks to go then I’m definitely taking a months break. It’s been a long stint since September. Ghost Stories, Sherlock Holmes & The 12 Days of Christmas, One Day : The Musical

It’s Thursday, and so it’s time for me to share this week’s blog post!
This week, we go behind the scenes with UK based cellist and composer @simonmccorry interviewed by Ryan Watts aka @akirafilmscript who once again poses some fascinating questions to into the detail and psyche of another Whitelabrecs artist.
This interview follows Simon’s amazing new album ‘all the important things are now connected’ and featured throughout the blog post is a collection of beautiful black and white photos by either Tomohiro Tanada and Miyuki Toudou, as well as embedded Bandcamp players so you can take a listen to some of Simon’s music.

It’s a wrap for March, which brought us this pair of albums by British based artists @glacismusic and @simonmccorry
Often when planning the schedule, it comes down to which artist is ready for a particular timeslot. But sometimes, these pairings work really well together whether this be the sound, art or concept.
Here’s a montage of the gatefold vinyl-effect sleeves for ‘all the important things are now connected’ and ‘We Gale and Then We Are Healed’ and you can hear a blend of excerpts from each record, which coincidently works (at least to my ears)

Some observations from my work as a Sound 1. Human things which I love. We’ve had a couple musician deps the last couple of days to cover for bass then guitar. Initially the steel acoustic parts were too loud and I had to pull them back by a fair bit but this caused the strings to over compensate. It meant I had to pay attention to slot more faders than I normally do through the show. Next couple of days the player was a lot quieter.and too much the other way. So when the regular was back and everything was back to normal. However for the cast the steel acoustic was too loud throughout. Perception I guess.
I love how changing one person or how one person changes what they does sends ripples through everything. Or one person leaving and returning.
I’ve read about this a year or so ago. Software controlled physical recreations of analogue pre amps and other units in a modular system. But first time I’ve used it or heard in action. We have the band mics/lines running through these. Sepia
