陳閃 Sim Chan

In 06-17-23, Chan begins with the structure of the calendar, observing how dates and weekdays realign every six or eleven years. By punching holes into public holidays, he transforms institutionally marked time into sound. The resulting low, repetitive rhythm echoes the regulated patterns of everyday life-where time is structured and routines are repeated, forming a cycle that is difficult to escape.
In In Endlessness # 25 Turning, this sense of repetition is further extended. One is no longer merely subjected to these rhythms, but gradually learns to follow, adapt to, and even internalize them. Within what appears to be an inescapable cycle, a form of bodily resilience begins to emerge-subtle, playful, and shifting-introducing small deviations into an otherwise fixed order.

Upcoming exhibition! 🔮Halfway up The Flag 2.0
Halfway Up the Flag 2.0 – Punctum continues the previous exhibition Halfway Up the Flag, which examines the “bottleneck” experienced by those around the age of thirty as they navigate between life, work, and relationships.
Inspired by the concept of punctum proposed by Roland Barthes, the project adopts it as a method. Through shared activities and exchanges led by the project members themselves, members of the exhibition are moved by fragments of one another’s lives. These moments of encounter prompt a renewed way of seeing oneself and gradually loosen existing knots and impasses.

As the exhibition comes to a close, we revisit 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦-𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 (𝘗𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘨) through your eyes. 🎡
Like a wonderland preparing to dim its lights at the end of the day, what remains are the moments carried home. Small discoveries, shared laughter, and the time you chose to spend wandering with us.
Thank you to everyone who stepped into this miniature world, who paused, looked closer, and made memories here. Your presence gave life to this land far beyond its walls.
Though this chapter gently comes to an end, every journey continues somewhere.
We look forward to meeting you again at the next station of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦-𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥.

In this series of works, “endless” scenes will be presented, leading the audience to shuttle between reality and surreal. Through a variety of scenarios, from the tiny objects in daily life to the grand and huge development projects, it shows the abundance of life, the infinite desire and luxury of human beings, and the ambition of a civilized society. At the same time, it also bears endless burdens destruction and destruction.

Inspired by the Thaipusam celebration in Penang, Sim Chan reflects on how this festival feels like the city itself: people of different ethnicities and beliefs coming together, sharing space, devotion, and energy. That togetherness is very Penang.

For the Penang chapter of The Infinite-land, Sim Chan (@simchancom ) brings together stories from this island — a forgotten tram drifting through a time tunnel, and floating cable cars pieced from Malaysian beverage packaging, sculpted with the familiar patterns of Penang’s old windows. 🪟
Every piece carries a small heartbeat of Penang.
‣ 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙦𝙪𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 (𝙋𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙧𝙚𝙚) — a symbol from the Penang flag
‣ 𝘿𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 (𝘿𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙣) — Malaysia’s beloved icon
