I morgen, onsdag d. 13. maj, kulminerer Christina Königs tre ugers residency hos SIC, når vi åbner dørene til open studio-udstillingen Between Not Knowing and Knowing. 📍 SIC – Sharing is Caring Flensborggade 57, Vesterbro 🗓 Onsdag d. 13. maj ⏰ Kl. 16–20 Alle er velkomne.

Wrapping up day 3 of the residency at @sic_cph with some opening layers to a new large scale painting. It feels so nice and relaxing to be able to focus my attention on just painting while I’m here for the next couple of weeks. And I’m excited to show you the works soon. Put a little 🩶 in your calendar on May 13 from 16-20 where we will open the doors to my solo exhibition “Between Not Knowing and Knowing”. An open studio exhibition showcasing some (or maybe even all) of the works I have made during the residency. There will be drinks, food and hopefully the beautiful weather continues so we can hang out and enjoy the sun 🌞 Please bring a friend or two, it’s open for everyone. Soundtrack by @eeegeephonehome always!

Det hele kulminerer i en open studio udstilling Between Not Knowing and Knowing d. 13. maj kl. 16-20.

BEYOND THE DIRECT GAZE 11 – 29 March 2026 Artists: Volha Savich , Olga Mzhelskaya, Ula Karotki , Magda Buczek , Bartek Arobal Kociemba and incognito artists Curator: Olga Mzhelskaya @vlp_galleri @sic_cph @statenskunstfond A heavy accent reveals a person before they have the chance to say anything about themselves. Voice and intonation render the body immediately legible, allowing others to construct around it a framework of interpretations burdened with stereotypes and expectations. In this sense, following Sara Ahmed, belonging is experienced not as an inner identity but as an orientation of the body in space – as the ways one is seen, stopped, permitted, or denied a place within a given system of coordinates. But what remains unreadable? The exhibition turns to the Eastern European experience, where history resists direct perception and refuses to cohere into a unified image. Drawing on Theodor Adorno’s notion of “damaged” history, the past appears here as a material of rupture – fragmented, vulnerable, resistant to seamless reconstruction. This condition is particularly palpable in Belarus, where political and historical processes have repeatedly interrupted the continuity of memory. Any attempt to assemble this past into a continuous narrative according to the template of a “grand” history produces simplifications, reducing complex lived experience to empty and easily manipulated constructs. The artists presented in Beyond the Direct Gaze engage with these ruptures through archives, family photographs, traditions – and their absence – exploring how identity is formed within conditions of violence, surveillance, and historical discontinuity. Gaps and lacunae emerge not only as the result of forced erasure, but also as outcomes of everyday tactics of evasion and self-preservation. These strategies of survival and self-definition introduce further breaks into an already damaged historical fabric. As a result, the fragment proves more honest than reconstruction, and memory becomes less an inheritance than an ongoing process of reassembling oneself – one that requires particular sensitivity to time and space.

Magda Buczek (PL/DK) Heavy Accent, 2026 Installation 41 helium-filled foil and latex baloons with printed text, synthetic hair Video 3 shows exhibition view woth works by Volha Savich, Olga Mzhelskaya, Bartek Arobal. Accent and intonation render the body “readable” before a person has the chance to speak for themselves. Drawing on the ideas of Sara Ahmed, belonging here is experienced not as an inner identity, but as an orientation of the body in space—a kind of geolocation on the political map of the world. The work takes the form of helium balloons, playing with the symbolics of light vs heavy, and evoking a festive yet strange atmosphere. They sink downwards with time. Each balloon bears the inscription Heavy Accent, executed in a Gothic typeface characteristic of the heavy metal subculture, yet rendered in pink—a gesture that deconstructs the traditionally brutal aesthetics of this style. In this way, the work balances tension with subtle irony. Instead of a string - there are long hair attached to each balloon, enhancing the feeling of uncanny or an unwanted gift, something that is too intimate to be touched by a stranger. The social marker of accent is one from which it is nearly impossible to escape. Drawing on her experience as a migrant, Magda Buczek proposes an alternative strategy: transforming the Eastern European accent from a source of vulnerability into a conscious gesture. The accent becomes a form of resilience—a candid and open expression of one’s identity, which in turn calls for an equal openness in response.it is a part of a bigger body of work and artistic research, “Heavy Accent / Slavic Bitch” that Buczek develops from 2025, about female postcolonial experience.

Olga Mzhelskaya Nameless, 2024 Video installation Single-channel video with sound (14′ 23″), photographic print from family archive, vintage chairs, crystal plate Camera: Iwona Ogrodzka The video installation Nameless is the result of an intervention at the Museum Pan Tadeusz in Wrocław (Poland) during the exhibition of Belarusian artist Andrei Loginov. Olga Mzhelskaya positions herself in front of a photographic backdrop, which was discovered by Andrei Loginov in a deserted house in the village of Charomushki*, where her ancestors once lived and where the family home remains. The backdrop depicts Lake Svityaz — a symbolic image of the region, preserved in the poetic legacy of Adam Mickiewicz**. This backdrop had been used by a local anonymous photographer to capture residents of nearby villages from the 1930s through the 1950s. Nameless is dedicated to Olga’s great-grandmother and to the fates of women whose stories have survived only as faint shadows of time. Family memory preserved only fragments — a traumatic story of the birth of an illegitimate son, whose father, a local landowner, did not acknowledge his role in the event. Whether this occurred by mutual consent or through violence remains a secret, taken to the grave by her son and his children. All that is known is that her life was filled with weight and hardship. Nameless also evokes the myths of the mermaids of Lake Svityaz — beings who were once women, whose fates and emotions dissolved into the waters of oblivion, inspiring Mickiewicz’s poetry. The video is accompanied by the lullaby of Olga Mzhelskaya, sung to her daughter at bedtime or when the child needs soothing

Wednesday, March 25 at 12:00 - 13:00, the new creative office community and exhibition space 7-9-13 (now SIC Cph), in collaboration with VLP Gallery, invites you to an artist talk at Flensborggade 57. Participation: Free Registration: [email protected] or just show up on the day The event is supported by the Vesterbro Local Committee. We will serve drinks and snacks. About SIC Cph Vesterbro is developing in a direction with more offices and chains, and fewer community-oriented and artist-driven spaces. SIC Cph is an antidote to this development and is being established as a movement by people passionate about offering ordinary people a caring space for creative expression, public debate, and a special focus on solidarity among the precariat. The creative class is, after all, the essence of Vesterbro’s unique identity, and we aim to revive the creative spirit that has filled the streets ever since the time of Tove Ditlevsen.
